ABOUT US embonds (Emerging Markets Bond Exchange Ltd) is the world’s first electronic trading platform dedicated to trading emerging market bonds. Based in London and with development team located in Istanbul, embonds has started coverage of publicly traded sovereign and corporate fixed income securities in the London timezone covering both domestic and eurobond debt of the countries in Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEEMEA). In most markets, embonds is able to offer domestic settlement for domestic instruments. embonds offers a transparent, easy to use and easy to access, multi-functional electronic platform. Our aim is to give asset managers, local primary dealers and global banks involved in emerging markets the tightest spreads possible on their trades by pooling liquidity from all participants. What’s more, as liquidity increases, those spreads are bound to narrow further still. The platform is FCA-regulated and has a client list that includes emerging markets banks, international banks and global asset management firms. The venture is backed by IFC, part of the World Bank Group, and Earlybird Venture Capital, which have committed up to $8.3 million in funding to support embonds’ expansion across the emerging markets universe.

TECHNOLOGY Our mission is to enable and accelerate access for participants in the Emerging Markets space, thus generating liquidity and transparency for all. We make this easy for all participants by utilising the latest thinking in financial technology standards to deliver the richest possible user experience. We harness the power of HTML5 and Chromium, eliminating browser-dependency by using the OpenFin Runtime, which extends Chromium and is a purpose-built container for real-time financial applications.

The open source Chromium project delivers the fastest HTML5 engine in the world to match the needs of traders, the ultimate power users. Our application is seamlessly deployed and maintained in compliance with financial institution security policies in a single deployment environment. We use OpenFin’s desktop integration features to create the same multi-window experience and desktop notification functionality that traders are accustomed to with native applications. GlassFish Server Open Source Edition provides a server for the development and deployment of our application. The lightweight and extensible core based on OSGi Alliance standards provides a web container and out-of-the-box support for high availability clustering and load balancing.
