NOTES FROM Stonyhurst
From the HeadMaster
Dear Stonyhurst Families
It has been another very fulfilling week and the sun has been shining between some snow showers! As I write, an art class is outside sketching Stonyhurst and classes are underway as many pupils look forward to fixtures this afternoon - including the final 1st VII match for our Rhetorician netballers.
One of the highlights of the week has been celebrating the historic win of the U13A boys' rugby at Millfield. I am reliably informed this is the first won at Millfield in 44 years.
We have also had immense tennis success - winning the Year11-13 North of England and Scotland LTA Tennis Tournament. Stonyhurst As were First overall and Stonyhurst Bs were Second overall in one of the major LTA National tennis tournaments of the year. An astonishing success.
Everyone is busy putting the finishing touches on the Great Academies programme and so please ensure it is booked into your diary. We cannot wait to welcome as many Stonyhurst families as possible to Stonyhurst in May.
With very best wishes

Stonyhurst Tennis History
A historic day for Stonyhurst Tennis, as our girls secured first and second place at the North of England Championships.
Our Girls’ A Team delivered a flawless 12-0 victory over Strathallan School - one of the top tennis schools in Great Britain - to claim the championship title
Meanwhile, our Girls’ B Team delivered a stellar performance, finishing as runners-up and showcasing the strength and depth of our tennis programme at one of the major LTA National Tournaments of the year.

Fencing Tournament
We were proud to host our first Invitational Fencing Tournament, welcoming talented fencers from Manchester Grammar School and Stockport Grammar School.
Both of our teams delivered outstanding performances, bringing home silverware! Our A Team secured 2nd place, while our B Team triumphed in their event
With this fantastic result, we now set our sights on the Public Schools Fencing Championships in the coming weeks.

Pi Day, is a fun and educational way to honor the mathematical constant π (approximately 3 14) This year we made the day even more exciting with a variety of activities that explore the significance of Pi in both creative and intellectual ways!
To start the pupils took part in a competition to see who could recite the most digits of Pi. Congratulations to Ava who was able to recite 89 digits of Pi, therefore making her the winner of the competition.
The pupils then made a multicoloured’Pi-per’ Chain, which by the end of the activity was more than 100 digits.
Next we did some circle investigations to help gain a better understanding of what Pi represents.
And finally, we ended the celebration by decorating Pi symbols. Which allowed everyone to express their creativity while reinforcing the importance of Pi in mathematics.

British Physics
Olympiad

We are proud to announce that Stonyhurst students have achieved the highest results in the British Physics Olympiad in recent years. Their dedication, curiosity, and passion for physics have truly paid off with one Gold, three Silvers and two Bronze awards in the demanding and prestigious competition.
At Stonyhurst we continually strive to develop and improve the education we provide to all our families. As a parent with a child currently at the school we wish to understand your thoughts and opinions on both your own and your child’s experiences and we would value your honest feedback. This is an invitation to take part in a brief but very important survey.
We have asked RSAcademics, a respected education consultancy, to help us find out more about your views. They have developed an online survey which has been designed so that it is quick to answer and should only take around 5-10 minutes to complete.
This survey is confidential, we do not ask for your name. No-one at the school will see the individual questionnaires. Any written comments you provide will be shared with the senior leadership of the school so we can learn from your experience.
Please access the survey by clicking on the link below.
Stonyhurst - Survey of Parents
We are aware that there are many demands on your time but we would be very grateful if you could complete and submit your survey by the deadline of 29th March
Thank you in advance for your support.

We are excited to offer an Easter Revision Course designed to support your child’s academic progress and help them prepare for their upcoming assessments. This is not a taught course but it offers the opportunity for your son or daughter to revise in a quiet, focused environment where they will be regularly asked if they need help with any aspect of their revision. There is an option in the first week to have maths tuition with one of our most experienced GCSE maths teachers.
Reserve your place today to make the most of this structured revision opportunity.
