STRENGTHENING OF BRIDGE DECKS JOB DETAILS: MARKET: Transportation PRODUCT: CarboComp SU CarboComp 5800/BL AREA: E313 Highway Bridges DATE: March 2011 MATERIAL QUANTITY: 9,232 Metres LOCATION: Belgium

THE CHALLENGE Due to revised legislation increasing truck wheel loadings, a number of bridge decks on the E313 highway in Belgium required strengthening.

CarboComp allowed the project to be completed quickly without the need for propping or temporary support, thus minimizing traffic disruption. In total, 9,232 metres of 120mm wide CarboComp was utilized.

THE SOLUTION To meet the requirements of the new legislation, the Engineering team chose to use CarboComp CFRP laminates. CFRP was chosen due to its inherent light-weight and ability to be applied in long strips without jointing.

CarboComp SU is an epoxy carbon fibre laminate composed of unidirectional orientated carbon fibres for reinforcement of structures, increase load bearing capacity and strengthen bridges and buildings.
