The Village at Blackmud Creek is a 35 acre mixed use development located in the Summerside neighbourhoods of Edmonton, situated next to picturesque Blackmud Ravine. Renowned local General Contractor Koralta was contracted out to build this prestigious business campus and called on Stonhard to assist in providing a long-term, durable and seamless waterproofing solution prior to the landscaping and paving being completed on top of the buried parking structure. Traditionally this type of waterproofing layer consists of hot applied sheet membranes which have multiple seams, and therefore, potential weakness if not correctly installed. Koralta wanted a system that avoided this situation. Stonhard was able to provide a rapid curing, durable and seamless option based on StonDeck QD4 which had the added
advantages of being chemically resistant, cold cured and fluid applied application. Stonhard installed approximately 2000 square feet of StonDeck QD4 to the horizontal surfaces and 550 square feet to vertical surfaces including kerbs and buried walls. Approximately 200 linear feet of cracks were also treated prior to the application of the membrane system. StonDeck QD4 is a solvent-free polyurethane-MMA (PUMMA) and methyl methacrylate based flexible exterior deck coating system which provides a crack bridging, waterproof, long wearing surface for use over outdoor decks, parking garages and walkways. It reduces tire noise, improves safety and provides an attractive, clean environment. Stonhard delivered this unique portion of the project on time and budget.
