The Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre is owned and run by the District of Kitimat. Renovated in 2009, this community swimming and leisure pool complex is attached to the Tamitik Arena and hosts a number of aquatic activities, as well as special community events.
Kitimat, for each segment of the installation in a demonstration of true teamwork and coordination.
THE CHALLENGE The renovation project at this community recreation complex included a new seamless, non-slip flooring solution in the change rooms, shower areas, entrances, corridors and pool decks.
THE STONHARD SOLUTION The Stonhard Team installed 3,000 square feet of Stonshield HRI and Stonflex LTE membrane in the change rooms and shower areas, while the entrances and corridors received 2,400 square feet of Stonshield HRI. In addition, the support beams and column bases were encapsulated and slopped from the top to the pool deck to eliminate corrosion and standing water.
A challenging aspect of this project was that the entire facility was an active construction site. The flooring system needed to be installed while working with other trades people on-site. Additionally, the location of this facility put Stonhard’s project coordination abilities to the test, as it was completed in 2 major mobilizations. Stonflex LTE is a two component, 100% solids urethane, elastic, waterproof membrane and coating system, an ideal choice in this particular application.
