The “Master-Plan” for Filmport encompasses a brand-new, 49-acre community on the shores of Lake Ontario, all connected to the film and media industry. Phase 1 of this project includes the Filmport Studio Complex, which houses Production Offices, Meeting Rooms, Executive Suites and 3 state-of-the-art Sound Stages. THE CHALLENGE The production office area, included in the first phase of this massive project, covers a large amount of space. A durable, yet aesthetically pleasing flooring solution was required throughout approximately 65,600 square feet of the building. The architect involved in this project had a specific look in mind for the flooring. Ideally, the new system needed to look similar to rough, coloured concrete, but also have the durability and performance of a Stonhard system.
Other contractors would be performing work on this brand new facility simultaneously, so outstanding communication and coordination were essential in order to complete this project on schedule. THE STONHARD SOLUTION The Stonhard team suggested a solution that would provide outstanding abrasion and wear resistance, while also addressing the architect’s specific aesthetic requirements. Stonclad GS was selected, in 3 separate colours, due to its excellent wear, chemical and abrasion resistance. This flooring system also cures to an extremely hard, impact resistant mortar. Stonseal GS7, in clear flat, was used to coat 33,943 square feet of Stonclad GS to give the desired finish effect. Outstanding adhesion properties and resistance to ultraviolet light also made Stonseal GS7 the ideal coating solution for this project.
