The Lacombe Research Centre falls under the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Foods Canada, a part of Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC). Lacombe’s research involves the study of food safety, red meat quality, carcass grading, cereal breeding and forage/beef research on a large scale. THE CHALLENGE A 17-year-old Stonhard epoxy floor had fulfilled its intended life expectancy. Though it was still intact, the owner preferred a full removal of the existing floor, being very well bonded, was difficult to remove. Additionally, a urethane grout was needed to improve the sloping of the facility floors to ensure proper drainage.
• STONCLAD HT THE STONHARD SOLUTION Upon removal of the existing floor, the substrate was shot blasted, followed by the installation of urethane grout over the long runs to the drains. Once the coves and curbs were troweled, a slip-resistant, 1/4” urethane floor system was installed. Stonset TG6 trowelable grout was used to create the slope required. Stonclad UT Heavy texture was installed on the floors and Stonclad HT with Stonclad UT Sealer on the curbs and coves. The customers were so pleased with the work, Stonhard was awarded extra area which will add to the overall safety of the facility.
