COLLEGE LIFE Our facilities have been designed with our students in mind. So whatever you choose to study you’ll be learning in an environment that’s built for your success.

We’ve got working hair and beauty salons, a bistro and restaurant, theatre, trade skills centre, motor vehicle workshop, dance studio and all our classrooms are equipped with specific subjects in mind.

It also means you can grab a bite to eat, enjoy a spot of pampering or catch one of our amazing shows; we even have our own SRC Sports Centre in Billingham offering exclusive student offers.

Depending on your circumstances we may be able to offer your course at a discounted fee or in some cases free, or you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan (see below for details).

ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN

If you’re planning to study a Level 3-6 Further Education course or Access to HE course you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan.

Students will be able to apply for a loan to meet the upfront costs of their qualification, which will be paid directly to the college on their behalf. This is a great way to access courses that previously, for financial reasons, may have been out of your reach.

Things you need to know: • You need to be a UK resident and aged over 19 • Advanced Learner Loans are not means tested or credit checked • Funds are paid directly to the learning provider • Minimum amount £300 (maximum depends upon course chosen) • You must enrol on an eligible course • Bursaries may be available for extra support for childcare* • Applications can be made from April, online with Student Loans Company for courses starting in September • Repayments only start when earning £21k or more. Example: when earning £22,000 repayment will be £7 per month.

This loan application is a credit agreement between you and the Student Loans Company. *subject to change

If the loan is for an Access to Higher Education programme and you subsequently go on to complete a higher education course you won’t have to pay back your Advanced Learner Loan.

She has not only developed the handson skills of her art but with a helping hand from the college’s enterprise initiative she is working towards launching her own business. Hitting on the idea of using creepy crawlies in her designs, the 28-year-old mum-of-two has got her unique selling point nailed. The idea also saw Leanne take home one of the first Enterprising Stockton awards.

SUCCESS TOM Access to HE - Science

Tom got his pick of three universities after choosing to study Access to Higher Education Science at Stockton Riverside College.

Having previously been out of education for four years he said: “I did feel a bit nervous returning to college but I settled in well, I made friends and had good teachers.” Off to study Chemistry with offers from Hull, Loughborough and Teesside universities he added: “For those people that have been out of education for a while it is good way to kick start your career.”
