Experience history on the Gotthard Panorama Express and make travel itself an experience – a personal journey by boat and train between Central Switzerland and Ticino.
Auf der Fahrt durch das mächtige Urner Reusstal und den 1882 eröffneten Gotthardtunnel erfahren Sie spannende Geschichten und Inszenierungen rund um die einmalige Gotthardregion. Zum Schluss erwartet Sie die abwechslungsreiche mediterrane Tessiner Landschaft – willkommen unter Palmen.
Die Reise beginnt auf dem Motor- oder Dampfsch iff in Luzern. Von hier geht es vorbei an mystischen Buchten, malerischen Landschaften und geschichtsträchtigen Orten der Urschweiz. So sehen Sie zum Beispiel den Schillerstein oder die Rütliwiese, wo 1291 die Schweiz gegründet wurde. In Flüelen steigen Sie vom Schiff in den 1.-Klass-Panoramazug um und werden von der Reisebegleitung herzlich empfangen. Dann geht es mit dem Zug weiter über die weltberühmte und historische Gotthard strecke in Richtung Südschweiz. Dabei blicken Sie dreimal auf die Kirche von Wassen, die aufgrund der kühnen Bahnanlage mit ihren vielen Kehrtunnels Weltruhm erlangt hat.
The journey begins on the motorboat or steamboat in Lucerne. From here it goes past mystical bays, picturesque landscapes and early Swiss locations that are steeped in his tory, such as the Schiller Stone or the Rütli Meadow, where Switzerland was founded in 1291. The Gotthard Panorama Express only runs in high season. An alternative, the Treno Gottardo, can also be used. This traverses the Gott hard panorama route once an hour, 365 days a year.

The history behind the construction of the Gotthard Railway.
The idea of joining the railway networks on both sides of the Alps with a direct railway line originated in the mid-19th century. The influential Swiss politician and railway entrepreneur Alfred Escher, was the driving force for the connection via the Gotthard as it still stands today. The construction and completion of the Gotthard Railway (1872–1882) was an inter nationally acclaimed feat of engineering, which was planned with tremendous foresight. Besides the 15-kilometre-long Gotthard Tunnel –which was the longest tunnel in the world –overcoming the altitude differences of almost 1000 metres represented an especially complex challenge. Different loop tunnels were the ingenious solution to this prob
lem. Passengers can still enjoy a varied journey today thanks to this spectacular route.

Die Geschichte zum Bau der Gotthardbahn.
Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts entstand die Idee, die Bahnnetze auf beiden Seiten der Alpen mit einer direkten Bahnlinie zu verbinden. Der einflussreiche Schweizer Politiker und Bahnunternehmer Alfred Escher war die treibende Kraft für die Verbindung über den Gotthard, so wie sie heute noch besteht. Der Bau und die Vollendung der Gotthardbahn (1872–1882) war eine weltweit beachtete technische Meisterleistung, die mit viel Weitsicht geplant wurde. Neben dem 15 Kilometer langen Gotthardtunnel –der damals längste Tunnel weltweit –bildete insbesondere die Überwindung der Höhendifferenzen von fast 1000 Metern eine grosse Herausforderung. Verschiedene Kehrtunnels waren die geniale Lösung für diese Problematik. Noch heute kommen Zugreisende dank dieser spektakulären Streckenführung in den Genuss einer abwechslungs reichen Fahrt.
