Daniel Ollom

“SMR prepared me for college because I was taught the value of independence, a superior work ethic, and the benefits of pushing myself to achieve my goals.”

Daniel is attending Franklin & Marshall College, where he is studying computer engineering.

Nikia Friday

“I am grateful that I attended SMR because it allowed me to explore all of my interests in order to determine what I wanted to do after high school. My favorite class at SMR was AP Psychology. It was so interesting to me to ‘be inside the brain’ and learn why people behave the way they do. My favorite extracurricular activity was cheerleading because the team was so uplifting and allowed me to feel like I was part of a family.”

Nikia is attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she is on the pre-med track studying neuroscience and is also minoring in Spanish.

Kylie Flerlage

“One of my fears entering SMR was making friends since I came from a public middle school. I learned very quickly that it was actually very easy to make friends, and the friends that I have made lasted my entire high school career. Also, SMR teachers may give you college-level assignments in some higher-level classes, but since the classes are smaller than most college classes, they can also guide you through the entire process. There is a great balance between the difficulty of the classes and the guidance provided by the teachers.”

Kylie is attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Katelyn Kovach

“SMR truly provided a support system among its staff and students. If I was ever encountering any kind of issue or needed help, whether academically or socially, I always knew that I had multiple adults I could reach out to for assistance. Additionally, with such a close-knit community of students, you could always find friends to support you, whether that was by coming to games or shows, helping out with homework, or having friends to eat lunch with. What will be most helpful to me in college is the independence that SMR fostered. Being a student at SMR taught me how to advocate for myself in and outside of the classroom, how to manage my time, and how to take charge and be a leader in the community.”

Katelyn is double majoring in theatre and broadcast journalism at George Washington University.
