Acknowledgement of Country

St Mary’s College respectfully acknowledges and pays respects to the traditional custodians of this land, the Giabal and Jarowair peoples of the Western Wakka Wakka Nation who long before us, live and learned, loved and raised their children on this land.

Let us sense the land beneath our feet, acknowledge to whom it belongs, and pay our respects to the Elders past and present.
For we too are one in land, one spirit, one in faith united in God’s love.
In the words of the Wakka Wakka language,
Let us all strive for the crown
“Yah-naan-day gum-bah ngay”
About Us
St Mary’s College, Toowoomba, is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition for boys in Years 5 to 12.
At St Mary’s College, it is our mission to empower students to be men of faith, integrity, action and excellence.
We provide boys the opportunity to achieve excellence in all areas of their holistic education guided by our Four Touchstones: Gospel Spirituality, Inclusive Community, Justice and Solidarity and Liberating Education.
At St Mary’s College, we focus on, and are specialists in, boys education, providing various relevant and modern learning experiences, as well as extracurricular activities.
Established in Toowoomba in 1899, St Mary’s College has played an integral part in educating young men in regional Queensland for 125 years.

Today’s Boys, Men for Tomorrow
Who, and what, are today’s boys and men for tomorrow? This is the theme that we wish to explore in our journey together as part of our new Strategic Plan. Our vision for the road ahead is to form today’s boys into men for tomorrow. As a school leader, this is about developing men of faith, integrity, action and excellence, equipped to take on a complex, but exciting, contemporary world beyond the walls at St Mary’s College, Toowoomba.
This three-year Strategic Plan outlines a clear path for a new vision for the College. We have sought feedback from a crosssection of the community to arrive at the plan. It is highlighted by new projects in lifelong learning, sustainability and the well-being of our staff and students; however, it cannot be achieved without co-operation with you, as partners in this work.
It is, therefore, a spirit of partnership that accompanies the plan we present to you today.
As we move into our 125th year as a College, I wish to express my sincere thanks to the wider St Mary’s College community. This is a community that knows what it is, but importantly, is open to change and improvement. We are proudly a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition, and we carry the Touchstones with us on the journey ahead.
I thank you for your contribution to our plan and look forward to working with you as opportunities emerge for our young men over the next three years.

A Future Not Our Own
It helps, now and then, to step back and take a long view. The kingdom is not only beyond our efforts, it is even beyond our vision.
We accomplish in our lifetime only a tiny fraction of the magnificent enterprise that is God’s work. No program accomplishes the Church’s mission.
No set of goals and objectives includes everything.
This is what we are about.
We plant the seeds that one day will grow. We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise. We lay foundations that will need further development. We provide yeast that produces far beyond our capabilities.
We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that. This enables us to do something, and to do it very well. It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way, an opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest.
We may never see the end results, but that is the difference between the master builder and the worker. We are workers, not master builders; ministers, not messiahs. We are prophets of a future not our own.
- Bishop Ken Untener
