ENDORSED UNITS

Endorsed units as far as St Mary’s students are concerned, are really ‘add-ons’ printed onto the Western Australian Statement of Student Achievement in acknowledgement of training that is of educational value that students have completed outside the listed School Curriculum and Standards Authority accredited subjects. This system operated for the first time in 2007. Some changes were made from 2015. For further information please see: https://senior-secondary.scsa.wa.edu.au/syllabus-and-support-materials/endorsedprograms

Endorsed units include such things as:

• Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards • AMEB musicianship, music craft, practice of music and theory examinations • Trinity College and St Cecilia drama and speech, music literacy and music performance examinations • Australian Air Force and Army Cadet training courses • CALM (DEC) Bush Rangers courses • Emergency Services Cadets, training courses • Endorsed Workplace Learning • Fire and Emergency Services Authority training programs • Surf Life Saving Western Australia Bronze Medallion • Western Australian Police Rangers training course • University studies • World Challenge • Young Achievement Australia, Business Skills Program • PADI and SSI Skin Diver, Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver • Yachting Australia Small Boat Sailing Courses • WA Recreational Skipper’s Ticket

Other categories may be added to this list over time. In order to get credit for an endorsed unit, it must be completed during Years 10, 11 and 12. The school must inform the SCSA of the course/s being applied for by early August and have the results available for forwarding by November. The procedure for acknowledgement of these units will be: • The student fills in the form to outline training happening each year (2023, 2024, 2025). • The school notifies the SCSA of this in early August. • The student then needs to produce a certificate or document from the organisation concerned indicating that • the training or the qualification has been completed satisfactorily. • This must be sighted by the Dean of Curriculum. • The school forwards this information to the SCSA in November. • The training completed will be listed on the statement of student achievement issued by the SCSA at the end of 2024. • Endorsed programs can reduce the required number of course units for WACE by up to four units. • Endorsed programs may contribute towards the C grade requirements of the WACE.

Responsibility for all of this will rest with the student concerned and is optional.
