Electrify Everything MN workshops this fall
The Electrify Everything MN campaign is back this fall with more free workshops for residents! Workshops will give residents an opportunity to explore and ask contractors ques ons about high-efficiency electric hea ng/cooling and appliances, as well as how to navigate grants, tax credits and rebates to help finance projects. Don’t miss this opportunity to get your ques ons about heat pumps and induc on stoves answered by professionals in the field. The Electrify Everything MN campaign was launched and supported by the ci es of Edina, Eden Prairie, Minneapolis and St. Louis Park. Visit www.electrifyeverythingmn.org for fall workshop dates.
Resources available to drive electric
Thanks to new federal and state programs, there are more funding sources for electric vehicles (EVs) than ever. Federal tax credits up to $7,500 are currently available, and state rebates will be available star ng 2024 up to $2,500. New and used EVs both qualify. Visit ev.xcelenergy.com/vehicles to check out Xcel Energy’s EV catalog tool to help find new and used EVs that match your needs and lifestyle.
Planting trees
Use Mother Nature to your advantage! Fall is a great me to plant trees. Lower temperatures and more precipita on provide the new tree a perfect opportunity to start establishing. Did you know roots will con nue to grow even when trees lose their leaves and the soil begins to cool? On top of that, nurseries o en have great deals at the end of the season. So do your part and plant a tree!
Get trees and planting at a discounted rate
With the City of St. Louis Park’s full-service tree plan ng op on, residents can order discounted trees through Tree Trust, a local nonprofit, and work directly with Tree Trust to have the tree planted at a discounted service rate. Higher discounts are available for proper es located in Environmental Jus ce priority areas and for homes that recently lost an ash tree due to emerald ash borer (EAB). Visit www.stlouisparkmn.gov/trees for more informa on.
Do your part: adopt a storm drain!
St. Louis Park residents are invited to adopt a storm drain by commi ng to keep it clear of leaves, trash and other debris. The simple act of sweeping and cleaning up around a storm drain protects creeks, wetlands and lakes by preven ng pollu on from entering our shared waterways. Visit www.adopt-a-drain.org/map to sign up.
Get cost sharing funds from the city for energy efficiency projects
As winter approaches, it’s me to start thinking about how to make your home more energy efficient and budget friendly. Get started by scheduling a Home Energy Squad “Planner” visit if you haven’t had one in the past three years – remember that the City of St. Louis Park offers a 50% discount to residents! Once completed, residents are eligible to take advantage of St. Louis Park’s Climate Champions for Homes cost share program and receive matches on u lity rebates up to 200%. Rebates are also available for heat pumps and heat pump water heaters.
Renters can also par cipate! Encourage landlords or property managers to sign up for a free energy audit through the Mul -Family Building Efficiency (MFBE) program and receive Climate Champions cost share funds for energy efficiency projects. Contact Ellie Rabine, sustainability specialist, at erabine@stlouisparkmn.gov or 952.924.2131 for more informa on.
A er comple ng a project, you may be eligible for a bonus roo op solar reimbursement from the city. Contact Annie Po or ff, sustainability specialist, at apo or ff@stlouisparkmn.gov or 952.928.1418 for more informa on.
City tree inspections – emerald ash borer
State licensed city tree inspectors will be out this fall and winter inspec ng private and public proper es for ash trees infested with the emerald ash borer (EAB) beetle. By city ordinance, EAB infested ash trees are a nuisance and must be removed. Trees marked by the city will have an orange X on them, and the property owner will receive a no ce in the mail. If you think your tree has EAB, contact the city at 952.924.2562 and they will inspect the tree.
Use a licensed tree contractor
If you do decide to have any type of work done to your trees, use a tree contractor licensed by the City of St. Louis Park. The city license ensures that the company has liability and workers' compensa on insurance to eliminate property owners' responsibility or liability of injury on or damage to your property from a misguided tree service. Don’t use a contractor that solicits door to door pressuring you to use their service. Tree contractors are required to be licensed by the city. For a current list of city licensed tree services, call 952.924.2562 or visit www.stlouisparkmn.gov/trees.
