Doo Good
Protect our lakes and streams by picking up your dog’s doo! Dog doo can pollute stormwater. Rain and melting snow flows across yards and trail, collecting in storm drains that lead directly to our lakes and streams. Dog doo contains millions of bacteria and accounts for a considerable percentage of the bacteria in our waterways. Dog doo also is a significant source of nitrogen and phosphorus, which act like fertilizer and promote algae growth in our waterways.
How to be a “Doo Gooder”
• Be prepared with bags and take extras
• Place waste in the garbage
• Pick it up regularly at home or hire someone to do it
2023 city cleanup days
The city will be holding spring and fall cleanup days and paper shredding events again this year! These events will be held June 10 and Sept. 23 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Municipal Service Center, 7305 Oxford St. A postcard will be mailed to residents with more information prior to each of the cleanup day events and will include a reminder of the paper shredding event dates.
Visit www.stlouisparkmn.gov/cleanup or call 952.924.2562 for more event information and other reuse, recycling and disposal options available year-round.
Memorials and commemorations
The City of St. Louis Park welcomes the donations of trees and park benches. These generous donations grace our parks and public areas for decades, while providing organizations, families and individuals with a unique opportunity to mark a notable event or honor a special person.
For more information, contact Rick Beane, parks superintendent, at rbeane@stlouisparkmn.gov or 952.928.2854.

There are opportunities on a variety of Commissions, including the Community technology advisory commission, parks and recreation advisory commission, police advisory commission, and others. Youth members must reside in the City of St. Louis Park and be a high school student, currently entering grades 7–12. Visit www.stlouisparkmn.gov/government/boards-commissions for more information or to apply to be part of the city government!
Juneteenth
The City of St. Louis Park City Council joined with the federal government in declaring Juneteenth (June 19) a holiday. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Although President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation January 1, 1863, many enslaved African Americans were not set free until June 19, 1865. In 2021, President Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act.

Residential energy efficient rebate matching program comes to an end
Attention all residents: St. Louis Park’s energy efficient rebate matching program will be discontinued starting this July. This program is being phased out in favor of a new “Climate Champions for Homes” cost share program. With this change comes a few new program requirements, but also higher incentives for residents.
Visit www.stlouisparkmn.gov/climate-champions or contact Ellie Rabine, sustainability specialist, at erabine@stlouisparkmn.gov or 952.924.2131 to learn more.
Reduce vehicle idling
Now that winter is behind us, you don’t need to run your engine to keep you warm when parked! Did you know that just two minutes spent idling is the equivalent of 1 mile of driving? Additionally, each gallon of fuel burned emits about 20 pounds of carbon dioxide. Help St. Louis Park reach its Climate Action Plan goal by reducing discretionary vehicle idling whenever possible. Visit bit.ly/IdleFreeSLP to learn more about idling reduction.
Seeking Evergreen Award nominations
Do you know of an exceptionally well landscaped house, apartment or business in St. Louis Park? Consider nominating that property for the City of St. Louis Park's Evergreen Award. The Evergreen Award recognizes highly visible properties that are well maintained and landscaped. Award recipients will be honored by the St. Louis Park City Council at a fall 2023 council meeting, promoted on the city's website and social media, and will have an Evergreen Award winner sign posted in their front yard. Nominations are due Aug. 1. To nominate a property for the award, contact Mike Bahe, natural resources manager, at 952.924.2699 or mbahe@stlouisparkmn.gov.
Rainwater Rewards program
It’s not too early to start thinking about spring landscaping projects that can help manage stormwater. The city’s Rainwater Rewards program offers funding and technical guidance to residential property owners who install projects that do at least one of the following:
• Protect and restore stormwater by capturing pollutants in rainwater runoff
• Increase the watershed’s ability to store water
• Preserve and restore native plant and wildlife communities
• Protect and preserve groundwater quality and quantity
Program benefits include cost share, guidance with management practices, selecting designers and contractors, and future planning.
Project examples:
• Rain gardens
• Rain barrels
• Permeable pavement
• Green roofs
• Other innovative stormwater management practices
The program is available to residential properties in St. Louis Park. Applications are accepted year-round on a first-come, first-serve basis.
To learn more, visit www.stlouisparkmn.gov/rainwater-rewards, or contact Erick Francis, water resources manager, at efrancis@stlouisparkmn.gov or 952.924.2690.
