Outdoor rinks and rentals
Outdoor rinks with warming houses The city operates five parks with warming houses near their skating rinks: Birchwood, Browndale, Nelson, Oak Hill and Parkview parks. Warming houses may close when the temperatures fall below negative 5 degrees Fahrenheit and/or the wind chill is negative 15 degrees or lower. Call the weather line at 952.924.2567 for updates.

Before/after warming house hours
Private use of the warming house before or after regular public hours. Tables and chairs are included. FEE $50 per hour (resident) / $60 (non-resident)
During warming house hours
Tables and chairs can be set up for rentals in designated area of the warming house. The general public may still access the building during this time. Group size for this time may be limited. FEE $20 per hour (resident and non-resident)
Outdoor hockey rentals
Outdoor hockey rinks (with hockey nets) are available for private rental at the four parks listed above during regular warming house hours. Broomball and hockey nets are available only at Nelson Park. FEE $30 per hour (resident) / $40 (non-resident)

Interpretive center
The interpretive center has a multipurpose room that can accommodate up to 130 people for meetings, wedding receptions, galas, company events, birthday parties, family reunions and more! The room also can separate into three smaller spaces for meetings and events. Room amenities include a caterer’s holding kitchen, audiovisual equipment, dimmable lighting and a podium. The Maple room is a smaller conference room that seats up to 16 around a conference table.

Upper picnic shelter
Located adjacent to the water garden area, the picnic shelter has six, 8-foot picnic tables. Restrooms, drinking fountains, electrical outlets and sink are available. This open-air shelter has protection from sun and rain with a view of Westwood Lake. There is a $100 refundable damage deposit required that is due 14 days before the event. Lower park building

Located near the parking lot, the park building has an open floor plan that seats up to 25 people. Windows on three sides of this fully accessible building offer beautiful views of the nature center grounds and the playground. The lower park building also has restrooms, drinking fountains and a sink. It's a great place for meetings, parties and more! There is a $300 refundable damage deposit required that is due 14 days before the event. There is a two-hour rental minimum. Water garden and waterfall observation deck
Looking for a scenic location for a small wedding, photo shoot or outdoor meeting space? Enjoy the background view of the water garden as you watch the water flow over the top of the 6-foot-high waterfall and tumble down the hillside! From the accessible observation deck you can see the full view of the waterfall, water garden, Westwood Lake and surrounding woods. This is an ideal location for small events up to 20 people. The water garden features native Minnesota plants blooming throughout the summer season as well as streams, waterfalls and a pond. There are bench areas for taking photos or to relax and enjoy the view. There is a $100 refundable damage deposit required that is due 14 days before the event. There is a two hour rental minimum. Turf rental

The outdoor facility will have turf which is great for soccer, football or other activities. Sunday – Saturday, 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Ice arena rental
Through March 12, 2023
Rent the outdoor ice arena for birthday parties, celebrations and company or school events. Up to 15 rental skates are included with private ice rental. Sunday – Saturday, 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.

The outdoor facility accommodates up to 700 people for wedding receptions, bar and bat mitzvah parties, company events, birthday parties and a variety of large-scale gatherings. The facility rental includes a public announcement system. Sunday – Saturday, 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Banquet Room rental
The Banquet Room overlooks the Aquatic Park and Wolfe Park and is available for wedding receptions, birthday parties, bar and bat mitzvah parties, company events, family reunions and meetings. The room seats up to 160 people and offers a caterer’s holding kitchen, dance floor, dimmable lighting and sound system. Audiovisual equipment can be rented for an additional fee. Alcoholic beverages are allowed but must be provided and served by a licensed caterer. An additional $290 is charged to retain a police officer if alcohol is served. Available to rent Sunday – Friday

Indoor ice arena rental
Rent The Rec Center’s indoor ice arena for birthday parties, celebrations and company or school events. We’ll provide the Gallery Room for two hours without additional charge. The Banquet Room can also be reserved for use at half the cost. Up to 15 rental skates are included with private ice rental. Sunday – Saturday, 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Located on the first floor of The Rec Center, the Gallery Room can accommodate up to 40 people for small group gatherings, team meetings and birthday parties. These open-air shelters can accommodate groups of 20 – 100 people. All shelters have access to electricity and most have grills (except for Fern Hill Park).
