Major Gift: Play Deck Shade
by EaglesSJE
Transformative Gift Makes Shade for Lower Division ‘Play Deck’ Possible!
Thanks to the incredible generosity of an anonymous donor, our students and teachers are now enjoying long-desired shade covers for the Lower Division’s “play deck.” This exceptional gift truly placed the jewel in the crown of a much-used and loved space.

In addition to installing aesthetically appealing, UV ray-resistant shade covers, we also upgraded the old chain link fence on the play deck with an attractive aluminum fence. We are now able to better provide for the well-being of the children and offer neighbors a better view in the process.
Contractors completed the shade cover project throughout the summer break, with the next phase of the project, Mr. Salzer’s vision for enhanced flooring, planned for work in fall 2021. Thank you to our wonderful Eagles Fund donors for making this dream a reality. When asked what inspired such philanthropic leadership, the donor said, “St. John’s continues to make a difference in the life of our family, and we want to expand that positivity by supporting this project, which promotes the happiness and healthiness of the students. We are delighted with our experience as part of the St. John’s community, and the environment this school has built to educate and support the well-being of children. We hope our gift will inspire others to support Hugh Jebson’s vision for the future of St. John’s.”
Anyone who has seen our students playing on the play deck in the hotter months knows how grateful we—and the students—are for this transformative gift. The children are already blessed to learn and grow in a unique, safe neighborhood environment. Now, they will finally benefit from and enjoy long-needed shade to cover their beloved deck as they play, eat, and hang out with each other.
“I could not be more pleased for them and our teachers, nor more grateful to the wonderful donor who made this possible,” said Hugh Jebson, Head of School.
