P A R E N T S “We Create Magic”
For Sheryce and Lane Andrews, donating to the Eagles Fund – and contributing time to special donor events – is part of a relationship with the school that elevates their family’s experience. In the larger sense, donating creates a productive feedback loop—where Wish List items and other school needs are identified and targeted—that positively affects the educational experience for all St. John’s students and faculty.

“When you invest in St. John’s, in terms of your time or funding, all of it comes together to grow this community – we feel more connected,” says Sheryce. “I spent quite a bit of time volunteering for Celebratio in 2019, and in doing that became more invested in the school and connected with a lot of people. When you put together that investment of time with the funding, we create magic with our events and donations.”
With four children at the school – Londyn (7th grade), Marlei (4th grade), and Rylenn and Trey (K5) – Sheryce and Lane have observed the benefits of their children being Eagles. The couple cite academic excellence and Episcopal values as cornerstones of the St. John’s experience. The quality of the teachers is another key benefit.
“What I appreciate most is the teachers’ open communication,” explains Sheryce. Lane adds: “Having our oldest daughter’s teacher guide and coach us through some math hurdles we encountered was very comforting and helpful to us.”
Giving to the Eagles Fund contributes to every teacher’s ability to help students spread their wings, says Sheryce. “We have seen the Innovation Lab grow, from when [our daughter] Londyn started in Pre-K to where it is now - from a small room to taking over the whole floor. The kids just love it.”
The donations were especially important during the pandemic. “From March 2020 forward, we’d just look at each other a couple of times a week and say, ‘Thank goodness for St. John’s,’” adds Sheryce with a smile.
