Pathways Fellowships vs. Ariel Internships by Margaret Odell
For students, faculty, and staff who still are confused about the differences between applying for an Ariel Internship stipend and a Pathways Fellowship, here are some key points to keep in mind: PATHWAYS FELLOWSHIPS > To enable St. John’s students to transition into graduate study or careers that call for special or prerequisite courses. > NOT for work or internship experiences. > For 2013-2014, open only to current Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. > Must be used in 2014, no deferrals. > NOT need based. > GPA will be considered for applications proposing credit-bearing academic classes. > Maximum award is $2500. > Can be used in the US or for study abroad. > Application consists of personal data, statement about course(s) or other study opportunities being proposed and how this learning experience is related directly to the applicant’s future plans, an official description of the program being proposed, a budget, two letters of recommendation (at least one from a tutor). > Hard copy of complete Pathways Fellowship application due to Career Services by noon on Monday, December 16, 2013. > For 2013-2014, applications for summer pre-medical classes/labs still should be made separately through the Thorne and Braziel/Lynn Scholarships for Pre-Medical Study (applications available at the Continued on page 2
