Welcome to St. Joseph Academy

We are so excited to welcome you to the St. Joseph Academy community. As you move through the next four years, we are excited to see you grow in your academics, faith, and interests.

St. Joseph Academy Mission Statement

As a Catholic high school in the Diocese of St. Augustine, we seek to provide an equal opportunity for each student, in a challenging academic environment, to encounter the Eucharist and to become a knowledgeable, self-directed, compassionate Christian, able to face the challenges of the future with faith, hope, and love.

Locks and Lockers

All students are assigned a book locker and PE locker (if needed) and are required to use a school-issued lock for these lockers

Students are responsible for the security and content of their own lockers

Replacement locks may be purchased in the Main Office

The administration reserves the right to inspect lockers, desks, cars, and personal belongings at any time

Food and Drink Policy

Food and drinks are not allowed outside of the lunch area

Students may carry a water bottle, which may not be larger than 32 ounces throughout the school day. Only water is permitted in the bottle.

Absences and Tardies

All student absences will be recorded as either excused or unexcused

Excused Absence Requires:

1.a phone call from parent/guardian to the main office between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM on the day of the absence

2.a note from the parent/guardian stating the date(s) of the absence and specific reason for the absence. Students who have been absent must report to the main office with a note in order to excuse the absence

Excused Absence Reasons:

1.illness or medical appointment with documentation

2.death in the family

3.religious observance

4.court appearance

5.pre-arranged absences with prior approval of both administration and parent/guardian

Students who are late MUST sign in with the Front Office and obtain a Smart Pass to be admitted to class.

Course Catalog

The Administration of St. Joseph Academy reserves the right to make appropriate changes in the curriculum to address student needs.

All students must have 28 credits to graduate and must pass all courses attempted.

Diocesan School Requirements: Students must take Theology each year they attend SJA

SJA Core Requirements: English (4) Mathematics (4) Science (4) Social Studies (3) World Language (2 - must be the same)

Fine/Performing Arts (1) HOPE (1) Additional credits/electives (5) Honors Courses - receive one-half quality point (example:

English 1 Honors grade: A = 4.5)

Grade Scale

A = 100 - 90

B = 89 - 80

C = 79 - 70

D = 69 - 60

F = 59 and below

Note: Please refer to your teacher’s syllabus for grade calculations. Grades can calcuated via percentage, points or both.

Freshmen Courses

English: English 1 or English 1 Honors

Math: Algebra 1, Algebra 1 Honors , Geometry or Geometry Honors

Science: Environmental Science, Biology or Biology Honors

World Language: ASL or Spanish

PE: HOPE

Fine/Performing/Practical Art: Art, Photo, Theater, Theology 9/10

NOTE: HISTORY CLASSES START SOPHOMORE YEAR WITH WORLD HISTORY.

Driver’s Education is now a required course and is permitted to be taken on FLVS. The credit will be added to the student’s transcript.

Progress Monitoring

Mid-Quarter Progress Check - student and parents will receive an email from Mrs. Hollis if the student’s grade is below a “C” average. Students will be encouraged to communicate with the instructor for additional help. The same process is repeated prior to the end of the quarter/semester.

For PRESCRIPTION medication, the student's parent/guardian shall provide the school permissions to assist in its administration. Please refer to quick links on website for forms.

Students are NOT allowed to possess medication during the school day with the exception of inhalers and Epipens

Schedules:

School is open from 7:30 AM until 3:30 p.m.

Classes begin at 8AM and finish at 2:45p.m.

(Wednesdays are early release at 1:45p.m.

Tuesday/Thursday Schedule Flip

Time between classes is 4 minutes.

Books can be purchased on our website under students--textbook link. Your students schedule is available through your parent portal.

E-mail/Google Classroom

Your child has been given an SJA mail account. An e-mail has been sent regarding setting up your SJA e-mail accounts. You will have access to the entire Google Suite.
