HIGH SCHOOL PLACEMENT TEST

WHY GIVE A PLACEMENT TEST
The placement exam is given by all of the Catholic High Schools in the Diocese of St. Augustine in the spring semester before entering 9th grade. We give the exam as one measurement tool to help place students in their 9th grade course work. .

While it is important for all of the students to do their best on the HSPT, we also consider middle school coursework, grades, and standardized test like the Terra Nova and FAST.

DO WE GET TO CHOOSE ANY CLASSES?
YES! DURING THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS, YOU AND YOUR CHILD WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHOOSE AN ELECTIVE AND A WORLD LANGUAGE COURSE

How do I get placed in Honors?
Have an A average from your 8th grade classwork
Receive an above average score on the HSPT Test

CORE CLASS PLACEMENT
THE ACADEMIC TEAM AT ST. JOSEPH ACADEMY WILL
PLACE STUDENTS IN THE FOLLOWING COURSES:
Language Arts:
English 1 or English 1 Honors
Math:
Depending incoming course credit:
Algebra 1 or Algebra 1 Honors
Geometry or Geometry Honors
Science:
Environmental Science
Biology or Biology Honors
Required Courses:
Theology 9/10
