orship defines who we are and what we do at St. James. Everything in the church begins from the altar. We exist first and foremost to glorify God in what we do, how we act, and who we are. Worship differentiates us from clubs, organizations, social agencies and similar gatherings because our first act and our first obligation as Christians is to worship God. Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment.” Mt. 22:37.

We also hope to encourage you to become more involved at St. James and in “the work of the people” by joining one of these ministries.

Liturgy is customary corporate worship according to beliefs, customs, and traditions, in other words, the form which worship together takes. Our word “liturgy” comes from the Greek word for an individual’s public duty and service to the state. The word “liturgy” literally means the work of the people.

Our worship, our liturgy, the work of the people, is just that: the work of all of us. In this issue, we try to summarize the work of our people that goes into and makes corporate worship at St. James meaningful and beautiful. We recognize and give thanks for our vergers, ushers, lectors, chalice bearers, altar guild, choirs, flower guild, tower bell ringers, acolytes, and others.
