TEACHER CHANGE MAKER SUMMIT 27th Oct 2016 AUDITORIUM FEROZE GANDHI DEGREE COLLEGE, RAEBARELI

STiR Education- A brief: STIR Education has created a model that empowers teachers to fundamentally re-imagine their roles in leading change in their classrooms, schools and the wider education system. STIR Education sees teachers as the solution and believes that motivated teachers are the key to improving students learning outcomes. The program starts with the ‘bright spots’ – identifying teachers who have even a small, initial spark of commitment and innovation – and use recognition, peer influence, soft incentives, certification, (offline) social networking and cross-sector partnerships to bring about a teacher-led movement for change within the existing system. The program started in Uttar Pradesh with common aim & objective of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) UP to improve the children learning-outcome.

CONCEPT: The organization has created its reach to 7 districts (Lucknow, Raebareli, Unnao, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Faizabad and Kanpur Nagar) of Uttar Pradesh during its three different Cohorts. In Raebareli, the program started in 39 Nyay Panchayats across 6 blocks- Amavan, Dalmau, Harchandrapur, Lalganj, Rahi, and Santav in late 2014 with 39 Education leaders and 1000+ Teachers. The summit is an annual celebration of association for every network teacher, education leader with the SCERT-STiR Full Model Programme. This event also gives us a chance to recognize the efforts of all the district and block officials who have enabled the smooth functioning and delivery of the SCERT-STiR Program. The network teachers are also certified by Roehampton University, London for their work as Implementor, Influencer, and Teacher Changemaker over the course of the Programme. Roehampton University, London, an internationally acclaimed university for its work on teachers training has partnered with STiR Education for teachers certification in Uttar Pradesh.

OBJECTIVE: The agenda of the summit was: 

To honor, 1 teacher from every network whose innovation was adjudged as the best innovation by the teachers of their respective nyay panchayats with Roehampton University’s Innovator’s certificate To award Influencer, Implementor and Teacher Changemaker certificates to network teachers who have done commendable work in their 1st year of the program and who also satisfy the minimum attendance and portfolio fulfillment criteria laid down by in the program.

Experience Sharing and Feedback Session

With the pace set for the day, it was time to give an opportunity to the invited some of our teachers and education leaders to share their stories and experiences. To facilitate this, all the teachers and education leaders were grouped according to their blocks and then were asked to discuss their experiences within the groups and make a list of all the sweet and sour moments of their journey’s as Teacher Changemakers.

Each group was then asked to select one representative who will come on the stage and share the group’s discussion points/experiences with the audience. We had 7 people who shared their experiences with us, all of them echoing the values we aim to instil in our teachers. Some spoke about their challenges as education leaders where as others spoke about their experiences while working in groups and micro-innovating or implementing the selected ideas. All the representatives had very interesting points to share, (some of them included in the learning section). This gave us a chance to understand the thought process of the teachers as well as assess the extent of the reach of the philosophy we are trying to inculcate in our teachers. Certification Ceremony With a healthy discussion and sharing of experiences over, the atmosphere was filled with positive energy, it was time for the certification ceremony. Given the shortage of time at the hand of the chief guest as well as the large number of teachers to be certified it was imperative that the process of arrival on the stage and the certification be smooth. To enable that we did a dry run with all the teachers coming on stage to practice the process of arrival on the stage and the exit. It was
