Special operations forces (SOF) have five truths 1. Humans are more important than their hardware 2. Quality is more important than quantity 3. SOF cannot be mass produced 4. Competent SOF cannot be created after emergencies occur 5. Most special operations require non-SOF assistance

a 2009 Naval Special Warfare Recruit Directorate (NSWRD) study, conducted by GALLUP Consulting, “those [students] participating in sports such as water polo, triathlon, lacrosse, boxing, rugby, and swimming as well as those participating in activities such as mountain biking, woodworking, mountain/rock climbing, and hunting ... succeed [at BUD/S] disproportionately.

strong ties According to a 2012 study, these are the top responses from candidates when asked how the candidate heard of the SEALs and why they were compelled to join:

17-28 Candidates are now placed in special recruit training divisions with other prospective candidates (i.e. SWCC, EOD, etc.). These special divisions undergo more physical training than the standard navy recruit division. After boot camp, the candidates attend an eight-week long Naval Special Warfare Prepatory School also located in Great Lakes that continues the physical preparations of the candidates.
