Today’s topic OLYMPIC JOY!

In 2021, Rimfrost embarked on an exciting partnership with Thea Helseth, a talented rower from Ålesund and one of Norway’s top athletes. As a member of Aalesunds Roklub, Thea quickly connected with us at Rimfrost, leading to a sponsorship agreement aimed at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Over the years, we’ve closely followed Thea’s journey, both in training and during competitions, as she kept us updated with reports from various events. At that time, Thea was competing in the double sculls alongside fellow Ålesund native, Jenny Rørvik. In the fall of 2023, we also signed a sponsorship deal with Jenny. The two have known each other since childhood and were now working together towards the ultimate goal—qualifying for the Paris Olympics.

We’ve experienced firsthand how challenging elite sports can be. In April, Thea and Jenny won their first World Cup silver medal. However, just hours later, they received news that the team would be split up and a new boat combination would be tested.

This led to Jenny being replaced by Inger Kavlie. The pairing of Thea and Inger proved to be highly successful, as just a few weeks later, they secured the European Championship gold medal. They also went on to win the World Cup overall this season. Thea and Inger performed exceptionally well in the Olympics, rowing a fantastic semifinal that secured their place in the final. There, they finished sixth in the world, and we couldn’t be prouder of these incredibly strong women.

Sponsoring Thea has been an incredible journey. Following a top athlete from Sunnmøre over the years, culminating in a European Championship gold, overall World Cup victory, and an impressive sixth place at the Olympics, fills us at Rimfrost with immense pride.

At the end of May, we held a sponsor event where the entire Rimfrost team participated. We spent a day out on the fjord, trying our hand at rowing, followed by a lively evening and dinner. It was a day filled with fun and lots of laughs!

Today’s topic SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2023

In July 2024, Olympic’s first sustainability report (2023) was finally published:

https://www.olympic.no/download?objectPath=/upload_images/7248A34B0F8A4A9BB9596CCDA58B3D7A.pdf

This is a document that has been developed mainly to inform our stakeholders about our most important ESG (environmental, social and governance) aspects, including our positive and negative impacts on various sustainability aspects, our strategy, our goals and our actions. Very soon this will become part of the annual reporting, and in the period up to 2026, the company will work systematically to comply with the EU’s new Sustainability Reporting Directive - CSRD, a regulatory framework that will ensure that companies report on social and environmental risks, as well as their impact on people and the environment, in a more transparent, detailed and standardized way than before. This is an important step towards achieving the EU’s goals for a more sustainable future, and part of the EU’s Green Deal.

The process at Olympic started in Q4-2023. All onshore employees were invited to identify significant environmental, social and ethical aspects that Olympic, or actors we are associated with, may influence, both positively and negatively. The management team then processed the input, involved a number of internal experts, consulted literature and existing sustainability frameworks and from this developed a first sustainability strategy related to the most significant sustainability areas for Olympic. This strategy is described on page 13 in our sustainability report and in our sustainability policy.

Today’s topic SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2023

Furthermore, several concrete goals were set for our sustainability work. This is an on-going process, and both strategy and goals will evolve in line with the company’s development and as sustainability as a topic matures within the company. For 2023, we attempted to report with reference to the GRI voluntary framework. In addition, for the first time, we prepared a GHG (greenhouse gas) report according to the GHG protocol, performed voluntary reporting on the EU taxonomy, and we carried out a climate risk and opportunity assessment. The company also reported under the UK Modern Slavery Act, a set of rules similar to the Norwegian Transparency Act, which could therefore serve as an English version of our statement under the Transparency Act. In connection with the process, the company also developed several new policies, as well as a code of conduct. Training in these is planned for the autumn of 2024.

Many at Olympic have been involved in this first round of sustainability reporting. It has been demanding to carry out such extensive reporting at the same time as the delivery of new vessels and other daily tasks. In the autumn of 2024, a new project will be initiated that will take us from voluntary GRI reporting for FY 2023 to CSRD compliance for FY 2025, raising the bar gradually to investor-grade reporting. The very first thing the project will do is to hold a lessons learned session where we evaluate the process and the result from our 2023 reporting process. Many of you will also be involved in this project, and we hope the project can contribute to increased internal expertise on sustainability and define how the company wants to position itself regarding the various sustainability topics.

However, working with the CSRD regulation should not only be about compliance. If so, we may miss an opportunity to add value and drive growth by embedding the findings from the process into company strategy and internal processes. If we do this right, we may unlock profit and purpose, protect our reputation and drive growth.

While the CSRD indeed offers great opportunities for us, yet it demands considerable resources and extensive reporting disclosures.

Today’s topic MARESS SUMMER CAMPAIGN 2024

Olympic’s vessels have in the period 01.06.2024-31.08.2024 participated in the 2024 Maress Summer Campaign, organized by VPS. Over 300 vessels from 12 shipping companies have participated, and vessel segments included PSV, AHTS, CSV and Others.

These vessels and companies joined forces to see how much fuel and CO2 emissions could be saved during this 3-month period.

The underlying idea behind the initiative was to show by example what is possible to achieve by collaborating and sharing of non-competitive data in the spirit of reducing as much emissions as possible. Some participants referred to the campaign as a friendly competition between vessels across the different companies´ fleets.

It is well known among offshore shipowners that most operational emission reductions for maritime vessels are a direct result of the decisions made by those who operate the vessel, and access to data/information that can support optimal use of fuel in the different phases is important.

In total, during the campaign, the vessels saved 2271 tons of fuel and 7155 tons of CO2, compared to their original baseline consumptions.

In the Maress campaign, several of Olympic’s vessels performed very well in terms of improving their fuel consumption per day in different operational modes. Also, the most efficient vessels in different modes and vessel categories were tracked.

VPS delivers the digital tool MARESS, which Olympic uses, a digital management system for data-driven decarbonization for maritime vessels. With an up-to-date, real-time overview of the performance of each vessel – and the total fleet – Maress is a unique tool for fleet energy management and for building awareness around the company’s decarbonization efforts.

Olympic Zeus came in third for anchor handlers, with an average fuel saving of 18.9% over the period.

Olympic Zeus finished second in transit for anchor handlers with savings of 22%.

Olympic Electra was the most efficient vessel in the vessel category Others and in mode DP The vessel also ranked 4th in terms of fuel savings in DP mode in the same vessel category (15.2%).

Olympic Taurus came in fourth place for CSVs, with an average fuel saving of 17% over the period. Taurus was the second best vessel in DP mode in terms of fuel savings per day, with 27% savings.

Olympic Orion had the highest fuel savings in the vessel category Others in transit mode with 24% savings and finished 5th in fuel saving the Others category in DP mode with 5.8 % savings.

Today’s topic MARESS SUMMER CAMPAIGN 2024

In addition to the Maress campaign, Olympic took the opportunity to establish an internal friendly competition among our own vessels in the same period to raise additional awareness about the importance of energy efficiency to reach our own climate targets (see sustainability report).

Our two best performing vessels overall in the period, when summing up the ranking in DP/Standby and Transit/Transit Eco are:

The prize is money in the welfare fund. Congratulations!

Current status

Market conditions improving and revenue growth expected

• Markets have shown significant improvement, with charter rates starting to follow.

General price levels increased

• While cost levels have been unpredictable, they seem to be stabilizing, providing more certainty for planning.

Restructuring still in effect

• We remain under restructuring with banks. This means that any excess cash beyond what’s required for operations and pre-approved capex is being used for extra debt repayments.

Spending restrictions still apply

• Restrictions on capital expenditures, investments, and general upgrades remain in place, requiring us to manage spending carefully until fully lifted

Solid financial position

• Our balance sheet is strong, with balanced contract coverage, a solid backlog, and very low debt levels. We are in a favorable position for future growth.

Refinancing expected by end of 2025

• We expect to complete our refinancing process by the end of 2025, improving flexibility going forward.

Looking ahead

• Olympic has emerged from a challenging period with a solid foundation and a clear path forward. While the market shows signs of recovery, we remain focused on a disciplined, conservative approach to resource management. Strengthening our fleet and supporting our team are top priorities as we prepare for future growth while maintaining financial prudence.

• Our strategy centers on sustainable fleet upgrades, environmental responsibility, and financial stability. By modernizing our fleet and carefully managing costs, we aim to position Olympic for long-term success.

• As we approach the final stages of restructuring, we are confident that our clear strategy will lead to sustainable growth. We deeply appreciate the dedication of our crew and employees, whose efforts have been crucial to our progress, and the continued trust of our clients.

• Looking ahead, Olympic is well-prepared to capitalize on market opportunities while maintaining a strong financial position. Together, with our crew, employees and partners, we are optimistic about a successful and sustainable future.

Trainees and cadets 2024

The interest for trainees to have their trainee period in Olympic has been great this year! We have received applications from all over the country, which is very pleasant for us. Many of the applicants had their 4 weeks practice in Olympic earlier and wanted to come back for their trainee period.

The proportion of applicants who have put Olympic on the wish list of companies they want to be trainees with has increased quite a lot since last year: 11,6% in 2023 and 24% in 2024. That is a relatively large increase that we are happy to see!

In June we had a half day meeting at the office in Fosnavåg for the trainees. They got a presentation of the company from some of our department managers, which they all found very interesting to hear. Since it was held at the end of the school year, not everyone could participate. Some of them were also already on board and had started their trainee period.

We have taken in 14 trainees this year: 1 cook, 2 electricians, 7 deck and 4 engine

In addition, we have 7 new cadets: 5 deck and 2 engine

Everyone has now started on board and we hope they will have a positive and educational time in Olympic. We wish you all the best of luck!

Improving Our Environmental Footprint:

Olympic Subsea and Ulstein collaborate on Life Cycle Assessment of Olympic’s new Offshore Vessels

We are proud to announce our partnership with Ulstein and Rambøll to carry out the “LCAS - Life Cycle Assessment in Shipbuilding” project. This initiative focuses on developing a maritime-oriented method to evaluate the environmental impact of our new vessels throughout their entire life cycle. In this work, we are specifically looking at the two new offshore wind service vessels developed by Ulstein Design & Solutions AS, both of which are under construction at Ulstein Verft for Olympic.

Olympic’s trademark has long been to be an early adopter of innovative technology that enables safe and energy-efficient ship operations within blue energy. In this collaboration, with leading players in maritime technology, we aim to take a further step towards sustainable practices. By using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), we will gain insight into and thus the opportunity to reduce our vessels’ total environmental impact, from construction, through operation and maintenance, to recycling/recovery. This is in line with our ambition to reduce our total environmental and climate footprint.

The maritime sector is one of the most difficult to decarbonise, and the implementation of life cycle analysis in shipbuilding is crucial for assessing the environmental impact of maritime technologies and identifying alternative low-carbon and zero-carbon fuels that can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ships in a holistic manner.

While the focus so far has been on direct emissions in the operational phase of a ship, there is increasing awareness that shipbuilding, maintenance, and end of life can also contribute significantly to a ship’s total environmental impact.

Ulstein has a holistic approach in the design process that contributes to this, together, we have considered more efficient ship operations, reduced energy consumption, use of greener energy sources and smarter use of energy on board during the development of the design solutions.

Rambøll, a partner in green transition for the professional service industry, will contribute expertise in LCA and value chain mapping in the project to contribute to decarbonisation and efficient resource use throughout the value chain.

This project not only strengthens our ability to provide our customers with accurate information about our vessels’ environmental footprint, but also sets the standard for future ships in our fleet, and in Ulstein’s ship designs. We look forward to sharing our results and progress with you as the project progresses.

Fleet OLYMPIC ARES

Currently working for: DeepOcean Norway AS

Period: 17.03.23 – 31.12.24 + opt

Work role: provide subsea inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR), light construction and recycling services to DeepOcean’s customers in the offshore renewables and oil and gas industries.

Location: Northwest Europe

Olympic Ares is on a long-term contract for Deep Ocean. We have established a good co-operation with the Client during our chart and we are enjoying the variation of jobs that they are utilizing the vessel for.

This summer both shifts have had the pleasure of sailing the inner Norwegian coastal line with a transit North to Hammerfest, and then south again after completion of Riser verification and a dive campaign on the Goliat FPU.

We are now back south in the North Sea where we have successfully completed a Thruster changed on Balder FPU, mobilized cable laying spread and are for the moment engaged in infield cable laying in Denmark on HornsRev3 wind farm.

Fleet OLYMPIC ARTEMIS

Currently working for: TGS/MagseisFairfield

Period: 01.02.23 - 26.01.25 + opt

Work role: Seismic Node deployment / recovery vessel. Oceaneering is providing two WROV and one HSL ROV (High Speed Loader) and UTEC is providing survey. Our base ports are Fourchon and Galveston.

Location: US Gulf of Mexico

Ahoy there from Olympic Artemis in the scorching shores of the US Gulf of Mexico!

So, our brave vessel, the Olympic Artemis, is still playing its part in the grand orchestra of the seas for TGS. Picture this: She’s out there, boldly deploying seismic nodes with all the grace of a swan on roller skates. And guess who’s at the helm of these underwater ballets? Our very own Oceaneering ROVs, performing the aquatic equivalent of threading a needle whilst wearing boxing gloves. Utec is waving their magic survey wands to ensure everything is shipshape and making sure not even a cheeky mermaid can slip by unnoticed. And who do we have to thank for this oceanic extravaganza? None other than BP - directing this symphony from their command to pump more oil out to an ever so thirsty world.

We’re fully embracing the sizzle of summer here, finding innovative ways to beat the heat and stay cooler than a cucumber in sunglasses. Who knew that helidecks could double as the ultimate shade provider? Not only are they great for landing choppers, but they also serve up some mean shadow for our BBQ extravaganzas. Imagine flipping burgers while watching helicopters come and go - it’s like living in an action movie, minus the explosions (thankfully). So, if you fancy a burger with a side of cool breeze under our makeshift ’helishade’, you know where to find us.

Wish each and every one of you a splendid summer. May your days be filled with sunshine, your paperwork light, and your only concern who overdid the tanning lotion. To our brave souls battling the waves on board, may your sea legs remain sturdy and your internet connection even sturdier. And to our dear colleagues holding down the fort ashore - let’s keep those emails short and sweet, shall we? After all, it’s officially ’pretending-to-work-while-daydreaming-of-vacation’ season.

Here’s to smooth sailing for us all – whether you’re navigating through spreadsheets or steering through swells.

Cheerio from the crew on board Olympic Artemis.

During this part of the campaign, we were preparing for the arrival of the FPSO by surveying infrastructure on the seabed, installing ARCA connectors on the mooring lines and deploying sandbags. After three trips in and out from Hammerfest, this part of the project was completed.

We then sailed south again for a chain replacement at Åsgard and some winch trials with the Johan Castberg FPSO in Klosterfjorden. We also got to do our first rig move in a very long time in between all the project work.

After some time in Bergen, we sailed up north again to the Johan Castberg field for some preparation work before waiting in Hammerfest for Johan Castberg to complete its trials and arrive on the field.

At the end of August Johan Castberg arrived on the field in the Barents Sea, and we are out here now starting the hook-up operations connecting the 15 mooring lines which will keep stationed here for the next 30 years.

The crew of Olympic Zeus hopes that all Olympic employees on land and at sea have had a nice and pleasant summer.
