Vittorio Simoni (°1954, Genk) is one of Belgium’s most prominent architects and interior designers. In 1987, he started his own architecture firm in Hasselt. What began as a one-man business quickly matured into a thriving company with a dozen employees. Simoni’s work is highly diverse in its scope, ranging from private homes to public buildings, shops, hotels, luxury resorts, museums and restaurants. Simoni Architects is not only active in Belgium but also Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, Dubai, Japan, Bangkok, Curacao and Indonesia. Besides his work as an architect, Vittorio Simoni is a professor at Hasselt University. Simoni’s innovative architecture defies stereotypes and typologies. Individual situations receive their own architectural solutions, with location-specific aesthetics and personalities. Stichting Kunstboek published a retrospective of his design methodology in 2008, under the title Situational Architecture.

La vie et l’œuvre de l’artiste belge Eugène Verdyen (1836-1903) se sont dissipées dans la brume depuis plus d’un siècle. Pourtant qualiﬁé par James Ensor de précurseur de l’impressionnisme, ce maître oublié du XIXe siècle n’a jamais eu droit à une monographie. Élève de Jean Portaels, Verdyen fut brièvement au contact avec l’orientalisme. Illustrateur et aquarelliste de renom, il peignit maints portraits de femmes, à la façon d’Alfred Stevens. Mais c’est par les paysages impressionnistes, baignés de lumière et de poésie, qu’il atteignit son plus haut degré de maîtrise.

Leven en werk van de Belgische kunstenaar Eugène Verdyen (1836-1903) zijn sinds meer dan een eeuw in mistige nevels gehuld. Nooit eerder verscheen een monograﬁe over deze vergeten negentiendeeeuwse meester, die door James Ensor geroemd werd als voorloper van het impressionisme. Als leerling van Jean Portaels kwam Verdyen korte tijd in aanraking met het oriëntalisme. Hij schilderde vrouwenportretten in de trant van Alfred Stevens, was een befaamd aquarellist en illustrator. Maar zijn ware meesterschap bereikte hij met zijn impressionistische landschappen, badend in licht en poëzie.

De mannelijke en vrouwelijke bloemen groeien meestal aan aparte bomen, waardoor planten van beide geslachten nodig zijn om bessen te bekomen. Zeer breed assortiment in vele vormen en bladtypes waarvan vooral de aquifolium types met hun stekelig blad gekend zijn. Er zijn ook de Ilex crenata of Japanse hulsten met hun kleine, ronde blaadjes, de meservae kruisingen en vele andere selecties.

Krentenboompje – Snowy Mespilus – Amélanchier – Felsenbirne Heldergroene blaadjes, vaak gevlekt en breed ovaal uitlopend in een punt. In het hart van het drietal bladeren zit een enkelvoudige drietallige bloem.
