EDUCATION : A LASTING IMPACT

St Hilda’s Offer Society
EDUCATION IS SIMPLY THE SOUL OF A SOCIETY AS IT PASSES FROM ONE GENERATION TO ANOTHER
~ GK CHESTERTON

THE GIFT OF EDUCATION

Offer Society members share a common value of giving the gift of education. We know this through the stories they share about the positive influence education has had in their lives and many they know.

We invite you to take a moment to reflect on the impact education has made on your own life, your family, friends and community. Did your education influence your life direction? Do you remember how your teachers shared and challenged your thinking? Was it during your school years that you met friends and created lifelong memories together? Or was it simply your time at school that opened your eyes to a community broader than you ever imagined?

Leaving a legacy of education for the next generation is one of the most precious gifts you can make.

St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls has provided an exemplary education since 1896. From humble origins in Claremont to three campuses in Mosman Park and Pemberton, the School continues to lead girls’ education. Much of its success is attributed to the generosity of its community, who over generations have supported the School to build state-of-the-art buildings and create world-standard educational programs. When you leave a gift in your Will, you make a lasting difference to the future of the School. The amount you give is not important – all gifts contribute to the School’s ability to invest in its future.

We invite you to join this very special group within our community that are committed to supporting the longterm vision and future of St Hilda’s.

A WOMAN OF INTEGRITY

Shirley Offer was an extraordinary woman who successfully integrated two of her great loves: St Hilda’s and the law. As one of the first female lawyers in WA, she was an important advocate for gender equality.

At age 11, Shirley came to St Hilda’s as a boarder and the School was her home until she left in 1944.

Shirley was a member of the Old Scholars Association (OSA) Committee for many years and a

THE OFFER SOCIETY

In 2009 St Hilda’s received its most generous bequest from Old Scholar, Shirley Offer (1944). This bequest enabled the School to build the Joy Shepherd Performing Arts Centre in 2012. It is still regarded as one of Perth’s best school theatres.

In recognition of Ms Offer’s generosity and her love of St Hilda’s, the Offer Society was formed in her memory. Membership of the Offer Society includes those who confirm that they have made a bequest to St Hilda’s in their Will. All members of the Society receive a distinctive pin that can be worn with pride and can participate in exclusive events held at the school.

proud representative of her 1944 peer group. She was often called upon for legal expertise on various issues; so much so that she became Honorary Solicitor for the OSA and was instrumental in writing an early constitution.

She sat on the School Council from 1991 to 1996 during which time she helped significantly with the organisation and planning of the School Chapel.

Shirley Offer was known for her diligence, considered opinion and belief in the valuable role of women in society. Her legacy to St Hilda’s continues to benefit the lives of so many bright young women.

HOW TO LEAVE A BEQUEST

There are many ways you can support the School in your Will. The greatest impact you can provide is through an unrestricted bequest which can be directed by the Principal and the St Hilda’s Council to areas of the greatest need. This provides the most flexibility to the School to make decisions that maximise the benefit of your bequest.

Alternatively, bequests can be directed to a specific area of the School such as a particular academic discipline, to a capital project or a scholarship.

These can be made a number of different ways when drafting your estate planning documents/Wills:

• Cash Gifts: a specific sum

• Bequests of Asset: give a specific property, shares, art, superannuation

• Proportional Bequests: a proportion of your whole estate (i.e. 10% or 10 parts)

• Residual Bequests: After all gifts and specific proportions have been made, the remainder of your estate can be bequested.

Each bequest is unique and personal and discussing your wishes with a member of our Philanthropy team will ensure that your gift will be used exactly as you intend.

In order to make a bequest, it is strongly recommended you seek professional legal advice. Once these details are confirmed and with the greatest respect for your privacy, we would be grateful if you or your solicitor could provide an extract of your Will to welcome you to the Offer Society and to assist St Hilda’s to plan for the future.
