FORTNIGHTLY NEWS AND EVENTS FOR ST GEORGE’S PARENTS
From the Principal Tina Campbell
As we conclude Term Two, it is important to reflect on all that has occurred in what has been a highly unpredictable term. We have weathered the storm, however, and now reach the end of Term Two celebrating our many fine achievements. It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through the year! There has been academic growth, growth in maturity, the development of positive relationships and an attitude of service abounding in all areas.
Congratulations to all students this term on their academic growth and their willingness to take responsible risks in their learning. Semester 1 Reports will be published for parents, guardians and carers by Monday 4 July, enabling families to check on the students’ progress to date and open discussions about goal setting for Semester Two. Thank you to our staff: teaching, support and administrative, for their unwavering hard work and commitment to support each other and minimise disruptions this term, which has enabled us once again to have a safe, engaging, and productive term despite the COVID, cold and ‘flu obstacles that have seemed insurmountable at times.
The buzz associated with school life has returned and whilst we continue to remain cautious in our approach, we have excitedly been able to see the full involvement return as we have welcomed families back onto campus, hosted a variety of special social events including the much-anticipated Year 12 Hollywood School Ball and provided a residential camp experience for our year groups. We are back to celebrating the energy, enthusiasm and effervescent that makes St George’s Anglican Grammar School such a special place to learn and grow.
As we conclude the term, we say a very fond farewell to several staff heading off on long service leave or to new positions elsewhere. Mrs Susan Lazenby departs St George’s, after many years of dedicated service to the school, for long service leave where she will enjoy the finer things in life before beginning her retirement in 2023. Mr Thomas Hatton leaves us to take up a new teaching role at St Mark’s Anglican Community School. Ms Scheele is heading off to tour our state and experience the wonders of Western Australia for her long service leave before returning to us re-energised in Term Four.
I am looking forward to Term Three with a renewed sense of normality, predictability and routine expected to be in place. We have much to look forward to – the Mid-Year Academic Awards Assembly, Year 10 Camp, Inter-House Athletics, NAIDOC Week celebrations, Science Week and all that this entails with Ms Donovan and her team, the Anglicare Sleep Out, Open Day and finally a new and exciting Mandela Charity Day. 1
