About St George’s
Our mission
Our mission is to deliver an exciting, engaging academic curriculum in an environment where our children flourish – academically, socially and morally. We aim to build the values, knowledge and skills they will need to thrive in a complex world, locally and globally. At St George’s, creativity, collaboration and innovation are more than words – they shape how we learn, how we play, how we lead and how we care for one another.
What we offer
We offer more than strong academics: through the arts, sport, service, leadership and social initiatives, every child has the chance to explore their passions, stretch their wings and find their own voice. Whether it’s giving a performance, contributing to a sustainability project, or raising their hand to lead, our students are encouraged to make a difference.
Here, kindness is at the core. Respect shapes our diversity. Courage nudges us to try new things. Honesty anchors our integrity. Wisdom guides our choices.
Parents choose St George’s because their children are not just educated – they are nurtured, known, challenged and celebrated. We create a warm, inclusive community where students feel safe, where they can make mistakes and grow, where every success –academic or personal – is recognised.
Where wisdom begins with wonder.
Why choose St George’s
Because your child will learn in a school that doesn’t just teach, but inspires. We combine the rigour of the English National Curriculum with global perspectives, creativity and purpose
Because every child matters. With small class sizes, caring teachers and a strong culture of personal growth, your child is supported, encouraged and challenged just enough.
Because we prepare students not just for exams, but for life. We help them become confident, wise, resilient and compassionate citizens who can contribute positively in an ever-changing world.
Because our community is warm, diverse and welcoming. We celebrate different backgrounds, cultures and perspectives, and strive for every child and family to feel that they belong and that they can be themselves.
COURAGE
We inspire our students to step outside their comfort zones, face challenges with confidence and stand up for what is right.
HONESTY
Our values
Integrity is at the heart of our school, where students learn the importance of truth, accountability and trust.
KINDNESS
We encourage our students to lead with empathy, treating others with care and compassion in every interaction.
RESPECT
Our diverse community thrives on mutual respect, where every voice is valued and differences are celebrated.
WISDOM
Beyond knowledge, we guide our students to think critically, make thoughtful decisions and apply their learning to realworld challenges.

Our campus
St George’s International School is conveniently located in Hamm in Luxembourg City. Our purpose-built environment is designed to inspire and support learning for students from age 3 through to 18. With six modern buildings, our campus offers a range of facilities to meet the needs of our school community.

At the heart of the campus lies our 300-seat auditorium, equipped with full lighting and sound technology. This space hosts drama productions, assemblies, music recitals and large-scale events, bringing our students, staff and families together in shared achievement and celebration.
Our newest addition, the Elsy Jacobs building features two fullsized sports courts enabling top-level physical education and team sports in a purpose-crafted venue. The building’s six classrooms also boast panoramic views over Luxembourg.
Around the campus we’ve added thoughtfully designed “pods” where students can work quietly and collaboratively outside the traditional classroom. During warmer months, our outdoor classroom blossoms into a hub for sustainability sessions, harnessing fresh air and nature to enrich student learning.
Primary students enjoy a generous outdoor space: a pirate ship playground, a football pitch perfectly sized for smaller legs, a sloped play area affectionately known as “Teletubby Hill”, slides and a wooden obstacle course. For PE lessons, we provide a running track, a second gymnasium inside the Primary building, a larger football pitch, basketball court and a variety of outdoor areas to accommodate our active curriculum.

Inside, our Primary building hosts a food-technology lab, while both Primary and Secondary students benefit from ICT labs, dedicated art rooms, fully equipped science laboratories, a media-studies room and immersive VR-enabled learning tools. Music education is equally well catered for with large music rooms for class lessons and studios for private lessons. Students can also hire instruments if they do not have their own.

Our story as a school began in 1990 when St George’s opened with just 12 students in rented space in Bonnevoie. Over the years the school expanded, moving to larger sites, and finally settling at our current location in Hamm. From our founding to today, our mission remains the same: to provide a welcoming space for our community, high standards of education and an inspiring place to learn, grow and belong.
We invite you to explore our campus where modern facilities meet an atmosphere of curiosity, kindness and excellence. Where wisdom begins with wonder.

Early Years
St George’s Early Years programme (ages 3 to 4, Nursery and Reception) offers a gentle, inspiring and joyful start to school. Grounded in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, our philosophy is that children learn best through play, exploration and positive, nurturing relationships with adults who really know them. From the very beginning, we aim to build resilience, curiosity, social confidence and essential skills for lifelong learning.

The school, the teachers, administration and her class mates will be truly missed. [Our daughter] has loved coming to school every day the last 2 years and she is off to the best start in her educational journey. Thanks for providing such a great and safe space for her to learn and develop herself.
The EYFS experience
Classes in EYFS are capped at 20 students, with each class supported by a class teacher and a teaching assistant. This ensures high-quality adult interaction, personal attention and the chance for each child to feel safe, valued and seen
A typical day in Early Years at St George’s is built around a familiar, stable rhythm that balances structure and freedom. The day starts with a warm welcome and settling-in period, followed by whole-class “carpet time” for storytelling, songs or phonics

Snack time offers social interaction and independence, while outdoor learning or “forest school” features regularly, helping to develop gross motor skills, awareness of nature and risk-taking in safe, supervised settings. The day ends with shared book-based learning, reflection and storytime.
Reception into Year 1

Children then move between child-initiated learning – both indoors and outdoors – and more focused, adult-led sessions in small groups.

As children progress from Reception into Year 1, we ensure the move is smooth and confidence building. Because our Early Years and Primary teachers work closely together, learning experiences are tailored to prepare children academically, socially and emotionally. The skills they develop in speaking, early literacy, mathematics, independence, self-regulation and social interaction feed directly into their Primary journey. Small class sizes and overlapping adult support help to reduce anxiety and give every child the best possible foundation for success.

Primary
Our Primary school (ages 5 to 11, Years 1 to 6, ) is an inspiring place where children learn through inquiry, build confidence through caring pastoral support and enjoy each day from start to finish. We follow the National Curriculum for England, but tailor it to reflect our international community and the Luxembourgish context. This ensures children relate what they learn to their lives and surroundings.
[Our daughter] has had a wonderful time at St George’s. She has made many friends and had some wonderful experiences. We would like to take the opportunity to thank you for supporting her through her first year in Luxembourg.
- Year 6 Parent
A typical day in Primary
Our school gates open at 8:00, with students arriving, greeting staff and enjoying time with friends in the playground. Lessons begin at 8:30 with registration and a full morning of learning.

There is a 15-minute break in the morning for a snack and play. Lunch is shared in the canteen, followed by more outdoor play. In the afternoon older Primary students (Years 5 and 6) have an additional break to complete the “daily mile” — a walk or run to refresh and energise.

The school day finishes at 15:15, after which children may go home via school bus, be collected by parents or join an extra-curricular activity or After-School Care until 17:30.
What makes St George’s Primary special
There is something truly warm, inclusive and dynamic about life in Primary at St George’s. Small class sizes mean that teachers know every child’s strengths and challenges. Our diverse community (over 70 nationalities) brings richness of perspective. We offer many enriching experiences: exciting themed “Discovery” days, school trips, performances in music and drama, supply of specialist teaching, enrichment clubs and community involvement. Events such as Book Week, Sustainability Week, dress-up days and assemblies bring joy, creativity and shared learning. It’s a place where curiosity is encouraged, friendships matter and children grow not only academically but socially and emotionally.

Inquiry-based learning

Our approach is hands on, curious and responsive. Teachers encourage children to ask questions, explore, experiment, make mistakes and reflect on what they discover, rather than simply receiving information. In this way learning becomes deep, memorable and meaningful. The core subjects are English, maths, science, humanities, French, art, physical education and music. In addition, other subjects such as computing, food technology, Luxembourgish and SMSC (social, moral, spiritual and cultural education) are introduced in certain year groups to enrich the curriculum. Class sizes are small (around 19 students in Years 1-6) and we have teaching assistants and specialist teachers in areas like music, art, physical education and languages to support individual learning.

We care about the whole child
Wellbeing is at the heart of what we do. Each Milepost (Years 1-2; 3-4; 5-6) has a Director who works not only on academic coherence but also as a key figure in students’ social and emotional learning. We know children thrive when they feel safe, seen and supported. Our staff work to ensure that every child is known, that relationships are warm and respectful, and that we build resilience, kindness and confidence as part of everyday life.

We want to express our heartfelt thanks for the incredible experience [our son] has had at St George’s. He has created cherished memories and enjoyed every moment.
My husband and I are deeply grateful to all the dedicated teachers and staff who have worked with him. We truly appreciate everything you have done to support his journey. Thank you for making his time at St George’s so special.

Secondary
St George's Secondary provides students aged 11 to 18 with a broad, ambitious and personalised education. Rooted in the English National Curriculum and enriched by our international outlook, our programme is designed to nurture intellectual curiosity, independence and responsibility while preparing young people for higher education, vocational pathways and life beyond school.

Key Stage 3 (ages 11-14) | Years 7-9 serves as a bridge from Primary into the challenges of Secondary. Students study a wide range of subjects, laying a strong academic foundation while also developing study skills, resilience and teamwork. A broad curriculum allows them to discover new interests in the arts, sciences, languages and humanities, supported by a vibrant programme of clubs and enrichment activities.

Key Stage 4 (ages 15-16 | Years 10-11) is focused on preparation for the internationally recognised iGCSE examinations. Students select a personalised combination of subjects, including BTEC subjects, enabling them to pursue both their strengths and new areas of interest. The iGCSE provides a strong academic base that is highly valued by universities and employers around the world, while also equipping students with the critical thinking, research and communication skills needed for future study.
Key Stage 5 (ages 17-18 | Years 12-13 ) offers distinct pathways: the academic route through A Levels, the vocational route through BTEC qualifications or a combination of both. A Levels provide rigorous subject depth and are respected by universities globally. Our BTEC courses, meanwhile, offer a more practical and applied style of learning, with Level 3 BTECs carrying the same UCAS points as A Levels. Both routes are taught in small groups with close teacher support, enabling students to flourish in their chosen field.
Life in the Secondary school extends beyond the classroom. Students are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of enrichment opportunities, from competitive sports and performing arts to leadership roles, volunteering, the Mérite Jeunesse Award (the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award) and more.

Student leadership is woven throughout school life, with roles in the Student Parliament, Leadership Team and Eco-Agents, giving young people a voice in shaping their community.
Community engagement is a hallmark of the Secondary experience. Students participate in fundraising, charity initiatives, sustainability projects and cultural events, strengthening both local ties and global awareness. Regular trips, from cultural visits across Europe to residential adventures, enhance the curriculum and promote personal growth. Highlights of the Secondary calendar include the Year 11 Celebration, the Sixth Form Prom and Graduation, arts showcases and school-wide performances, all of which foster a strong sense of belonging and achievement.
Through this combination of academic challenge, pastoral support and rich co-curricular opportunity,

Secondary at St George’s enables students to develop as confident learners, principled leaders and engaged citizens

Preparing for the future
The St George’s journey doesn’t end with exams. We help every student imagine, plan and pursue a future that fits their gifts, values and ambitions. From Early Years to Sixth Form, we guide our students on a path of personal growth and academic achievement .

In Key Stage 3, students begin exploring who they are and what they might become through lessons in Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE), Enterprise Day, Sons & Daughters to Work Day, taster sessions using the Unifrog platform and more. These early experiences help young learners understand choices and build confidence.
The support deepens in Key Stage 4, with one-week work placements, leadership projects, career assemblies and one-to-one guidance to help students link their studies to possible futures. Subject taster lessons ensure they can make informed choices when deciding between GCSE, BTEC or other routes.
Then comes Key Stage 5 – Sixth Form – where university or life beyond school becomes a central theme. Students are supported by a dedicated pastoral team, form tutors and our Careers Consultant. They engage in tailored workshops, university fairs, professional talks (often from alumni) and guidance in competitive fields. Weekly university meetings help with applications and ensuring that each student is

aiming high, with awareness of the global options open to them.
Our alumni community is an inspiring part of this story. We encourage former students to maintain strong ties with St George’s and they are regularly welcomed back to share their experiences of university life, the transition from school to higher education, and the choices that shaped their careers. Their generosity in mentoring and advising our current students adds authenticity and warmth to our Futures Programme
Our graduates go on to study around the world, but primarily in the UK, Europe and the US, including Russell Group universities and other globally respected institutions. Most students (over 90%) receive offers for their first or insurance choice universities.
At St George’s, planning for every student’s future isn’t an add-on. It’s at the core of what we do – helping young people discover, prepare and step into worlds where they can thrive

The Arts at St George’s
The Arts – art, drama and music – are central to a rich and well-rounded education. Every student at St George’s, from Early Years to Key Stage 5, is offered opportunities not just to learn, but to perform, create, collaborate and grow.

Music
Music is an important part of life at St George’s. From the youngest children in EYFS discovering rhythm, tempo and pitch through singing, clapping and simple instruments, to older students exploring drumming, songwriting and music technology, every child is encouraged to find their musical voice. Private instrumental and vocal lessons are offered during the school day, alongside choirs, ensembles and musical theatre clubs. Students perform regularly in recitals, Coffee House Week, Night at the Musicals and the Winter Music Showcase. Beyond school, they take part in exciting opportunities such as the Young Voices concert in London, local Christmas markets and international festivals like the COBIS Music Festival.
Drama & Performing Arts
Drama is about more than acting – it’s about confidence, communication and teamwork. In Primary, every class performs an assembly or stage show each year. In Secondary, drama lessons are built into the curriculum from Years 7 to 9, with options for GCSE, A level and BTEC qualifications in later years. Students participate in the Shakespeare Schools Festival, hosted by St George’s in Luxembourg, as well as domestic and international festivals like FEATs in Hamburg, and biennial special events such as FEST

Art, Craft & Design
Our visual arts programme allows students to explore a wide variety of media, including drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, textiles, digital art and more. Primary art lessons connect to broader learning topics, such as creative units on Vikings, space, collages or 3D work, and help to make learning lively. In Secondary, students build on that foundation, studying both historical and contemporary art movements, and have the option to take GCSE and A-level courses in art. Our annual Art Exhibition in the summer term gathers work from across all age groups, giving students the chance to exhibit in a beautiful showcase.
Below the surface of skill-building, our arts programme builds imagination, courage, individuality and empathy – qualities that carry through all aspects of school life and beyond. At St George’s, every student has the chance to shine, whether on stage, in the music room, or with a brush in hand.

Students in the spotlight
Primary students hold stage performances and class assemblies every year.
Music-related highlights include Christmas Markets performances, the Young Voices concert, Coffee House Week, Winter Music Showcase and Night at the Musicals.
Drama festivals, such as the Shakespeare Schools Festival and FEATs, plus international and biennial events give high-level stage experience.
The annual Art Exhibition showcases the work of students from all year groups during summer term.
Summer Schools – including Acting for Stage, Painting Workshop and Songwriting & Production – offer focused arts weeks during the summer holidays.
Sport at St George’s
Physical development, competitive opportunity and holistic wellbeing go hand-in-hand in creating a vibrant, thriving student community.
From the Early Years, our physical education curriculum lays the foundation for lifelong health, enjoyment and confidence. In Primary, children explore a broad range of activities – ball games, gymnastics, dance and swimming – helping them build coordination, confidence and a positive attitude to movement. As they move into Secondary, students develop their skills in team sports such as football, basketball, rugby, volleyball and cricket. Those wishing to go further can select our BTEC in Sport in Key Stages 4 and 5, where they delve into coaching, anatomy and physiology, fitness training and sports psychology, preparing for higher education or careers in sport.
Working as a team
Sport at St George’s offers more than participation – it’s about challenge, camaraderie and representing the school with pride. From inter-school matches with other schools in Luxembourg to international tournaments across Europe, students have the chance to compete, travel, make friends and experience team success. Our Secondary squads engage in regular fixtures for football, rugby, volleyball and more, developing not only technical

Set up for sport
Our purpose-built sports facility, the Elsy Jacobs building, is named in honour of Luxembourg’s trail-blazing cyclist. The building features two full-size sports courts, changing facilities for four teams, dedicated first-aid room and classrooms with sweeping views over Luxembourg. This landmark addition to our campus underlines our commitment to sport and community, providing state-of-the-art facilities for our students and extending a welcome to local clubs and community groups.
In addition to Elsy Jacobs, we have a second gymnasium, two football pitches, running track, basketball court and general purpose outdoor areas to host a variety of sports training sessions.

Physical and mental wellbeing
More than physical health, wellbeing is about feeling valued, safe and supported. We embed wellbeing through our ethos of kindness, respect, courage and wisdom. Our student leadership programmes – from School Council to Student Parliament and Eco-Agents – offer peer-led opportunities to build community, voice, responsibility and belonging. Alongside this, our pastoral and safeguarding frameworks ensure each student’s personal and emotional development is nurtured so they flourish both in and out of the classroom.
Together, this dynamic combination of sport, top-tier facilities, competitive fixtures and dedicated wellbeing support ensures our students grow into wellrounded, healthy, confident individuals, prepared to thrive both at school and beyond.

Beyond the classroom
St George’s enrichment and co-curricular programmes are fulfilling, varied and designed with your child’s aspirations and your family’s needs in mind. From our bustling after-school clubs and lively community projects to the esteemed Mérite Jeunesse (Duke of Edinburgh) Award and exciting residential trips, we give every student the chance to thrive beyond the classroom.

In the co-curricular sphere students can choose from sports (such as football, cricket, yoga and athletics) and the arts (choir, guitar club, drama productions) through to robotics, debating and STEM clubs. Leadership is woven into daily life through School Council in Primary, Student Parliament in Secondary, Eco-Agents and the Secondary School Leadership Team. Our community involvement brings real purpose to students’ efforts: they fundraise, visit local care homes, run sustainability campaigns and partner with charities to experience – and contribute to –the wider world.
An increasing number of Secondary students engage in the Mérite Jeunesse programme, making St George’s one of the largest centres in Luxembourg. Through the programme, they set personal goals across service, skills, physical recreation and adventurous journeys, and at Gold level complete a residential project.

Our approach to residential trips and excursions is equally bold and thoughtful, and central to the learning experience at St George’s. Residential trips start in Year 3 and continue annually, giving students experiences and memories that will last a lifetime. Some subjects in Secondary, such as geography and drama, incorporate residential trips to European destinations to expand on classroom learning, while students also have the opportunity to attend trips for sporting tournaments or artistic endeavours.
Whether your child wants to lead a club, join the orchestra, compete on a sports team or volunteer in the local community, we offer the support, challenge and joy that helps them grow into confident, globally minded young people ready for tomorrow

Sustainability at St George’s
Rooted in our commitment to the planet, our School Climate Pledge sets an ambitious goal: to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. This pledge is more than a statement – it is a call to action that permeates every aspect of our school community.

Our students are the drivers of this movement. The EcoAgents, a dedicated group of students from Primary and Secondary, lead initiatives such as recycling programmes, energy conservation efforts, awareness campaigns and tree-planting projects. Their vibrant green hoodies are a familiar sight, not just within the school but also at sustainability and community events across Luxembourg, where they engage with leaders and experts to advocate for environmental change.
Sustainability is embedded in our the curriculum. From exploring biodiversity in science to understanding environmental challenges in geography, our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to tackle global issues.
Our commitment extends beyond the walls of our classrooms and beyond the borders of Luxembourg.
In 2024, we partnered with Green Up Gambia to plant 1,000 trees, offsetting approximately 50 tons of CO2 emissions. This initiative not only contributes to global climate action but also fosters a sense of global citizenship among our students. In 2025 we launched our Ocean Gatekeepers project, recognising that even in a landlocked country we still have a responsibility to protect the oceans.
Through these projects and partnerships, we aim to inspire our students to become thoughtful, responsible changemakers. Sustainability is not just about protecting the environment – it is about empowering our students to lead the way towards a more sustainable future.

Forever a part of the St George’s story
Life at St George’s is shaped by the warmth, energy and connections of our extraordinary community. From the dedicated Friends of St George’s to our calendar full of events for parents, students and the wider community, every gathering is an opportunity to celebrate, share and belong. From cultural festivals and sports days to workshops and social gatherings, there are countless opportunities for families to engage, share and grow together.

We believe that a strong community is essential in an international school, providing a sense of home and continuity for students and families from around the world. At St George’s, membership is lifelong: whether student, staff, parent, or extended family, once you join our community, you become part of the St George’s story forever – a story built on shared experiences, enduring friendships and a commitment to nurture every individual.

With dedicated, highly experienced teachers and small class sizes, we create a nurturing environment where every learner can thrive at their own pace and in their own way.
We are proud to be an inclusive school that welcomes students with a wide range of needs and backgrounds. Our team works closely with families to identify and support students who may require additional help, including those with special educational needs (SEN) With specialist staff, we ensure that every learner can access the full curriculum and enjoy success both academically and personally.
For students who have English as an additional language (EAL), we offer a comprehensive programme that builds confidence and fluency while encouraging full participation in school life. From targeted language support to integrated classroom strategies, our

We also recognise and nurture those who show exceptional ability or curiosity. Our “More Able” programme provides additional challenge through enrichment opportunities, advanced projects and mentorship, helping students extend their learning and explore their passions in greater depth.
At the heart of all we do is a commitment to personalised learning – adapting to the needs, strengths and aspirations of each student. Whether through tailored support, individual goal setting or stretching academic opportunities, we strive to ensure that every child feels empowered to reach their potential and develop a lifelong love of learning.
