During our final years in the Department of Architecture, University of Patras, me and Mariantina Papadea created our Diploma Thesis project.
Since 2008, Athens has been building its new identity around the phenomenon of crisis and Greek status has been detached from the magnitude of the Parthenon. An identity deeply heterogenous and chaotic which we turn into a narration through the figures of nine main characters. Each of them maintains a specific space within our proposal, which has been designed based on the events, the images and the conceptions of Greek reality in crisis. Characters and spaces are placed into the gigantic entity of a scaffolding interweaving with one another. Every aspect of the athenian demeanor is reflected upon them; violence, destruction, resistance as well as apathy, hope and despair, creative urge, entertainment, spontaneity. All of them interact, co-exist and conflict while overall shaping a micro scale of the city within the city itself.
