Bounceathon raises over £3,000!

A big thanks to everyone who made it a brilliant event!! NTGA helped raise over £3,000 for Children in Need at our brilliant Bounceathon on Friday, 16th November. Jumping from 4pm to midnight. members, along with their friends and family - all dressed in ‘onezies’ -filled the trampoline centre for the entire eight hours making sure every trampoline was in use

Thanks to Alisdair Tait for the brilliant pictures! www.alisdairtait.com

for the bouncing bonanza! The Fundraising committee made sure no-one went hungry as they raised £190 through sales of cakes and treats alone. There was no doubt as to who stole the show, however, as a special synchronised display from parents Sue and John Andrews - complete with Sue in a leotard received the biggest cheer. After an intense coaching session, and causing some severe embarrassment to their children, the pair performed two routines in the packed out Trampoline Centre, raising an amazing £400! Some fantastic face-painting, along with different fun and games meant the time flew by, and the donations kept coming in as non-members, parents and friends joined in to show what

they can do. It was great to see the children coaching the adults and everyone just having a great time! As some of the younger members headed home to rest before training the next morning, members of the Stallions Trampoline Squad (Northampton University) ensured the Trampoline Centre stayed full until the very end. As the clock struck midnight there was no sign of the bouncing letting up! A huge thank you to everyone who turned up to support the Bounceathon and helped raise money for such a fantastic cause. Well done to all our members for getting so many sponsors and bouncing for so long! We are still collecting sponsor money and taking donations, but we’re well over the £3,000 mark!

Amanda makes it a double AMANDA HARRIS is celebrating after scooping both the Kettering Sports Personality of the Year and Kettering Local Sportsperson of the year. Rothwell’s Amanda picked up both gongs at the county awards at Wicksteed Park on October 31st after a year to remember. Following top five placings at all the national gala’s in 2012, and fourth spot at the British Championships, Amanda won her first senior Great Britain cap at the Loule World Cup, where she won a bronze medal in the Synchronised Senior Ladies. Whilst representing England she won the Frivolten Cup in Sweden, and then added another gold at the David WardHunt Cup in Gillingham. She was also chosen to take part in a trial run of the Trampoline event at the London Olympics, testing out the arena and equipment.

Tracy wins Northants coach of the year 2012 OUR very own Tracy WhittakerSmith has been named Northamptonshire Sport Coach of the Year for 2012. Tracy was named top of the pile after a successful year which culminated in accompanying GB Olympian Kat Driscoll to London 2012. The ceremony, where nominees were selected after winning local district awards, celebrated the achievements of the county’s top sports people and was held at the Kettering Arena on Thursday 8th

November. Tracy worked with GB’s top trampolinist throughout the year and in the run up to the Olympic games, while coaching Air Gravity to second spot on ITV1’s ‘Let’s Get Gold’. After accepting the trophy, Tracy said: “I’m delighted and honoured to win the award. “I would like to dedicate it to all the coaches, staff and volunteers at NTGA who work tirelessly providing trampoline classes for people of all ages and abilities from all over Northamptonshire”.

England Rugby train at NTGA

ENGLAND Women’s Rugby squad trained at Northampton Trampoline Centre back in August in a bid to fine tune their game. The squad were put through their paces by NTGA coaches Harvey Smith, Tracy Whittaker-Smith, Dani Martin and Jaime Halsey, using trampolines, video analysis and state-of-the-art equipment at our Northampton base. England rugby coaches are hoping that the balance, coordination and core stability that trampolining requires could benefit the squad and prove to be the difference in getting the better of future opponents, when it matters. The ladies started the day with some jump testing to find their base levels. Ten-jump times on the trampoline were recorded,

with higher times being recorded by those with more power and stability. Sydney 2000 Olympian Jaime then took the squad through some conditioning circuits used at the club. The differences were apparent almost immediately as some of the squad struggled their way through exercises usually completed with relative ease by our trampolinists! The main session of the day comprised of the squad jumping on the trampolines holding weights directly above their heads, then moving on to catching balls as they reached the top of their jump, simulating lineouts in rugby. With expert advice along the way from NTGA coaches, the squad improved their jumping techniques dramatically, which

led to catching the incoming balls with confidence under pressure. Squad coach Steve Halsey, married to Jaime, is hoping the improvements on the day will be reflected in future performances on the pitch. “It’s the two or three percent difference between being a couple of points down in a game with a few minutes left and nailing that line-out – because they are able to keep their shape under pressure even though they are fatigued – that could be the difference between coming up short in a World Cup Final, or actually winning it.” Read the full account of this story in issue three of TREND Health, Fitness & Lifestyle magazine, at www.TRENDHFL.co.uk. International cup results NTGA sent strong teams of gymnasts to three open international events recently, the Loulé Cup in Portugal, the Dave Ward Hunt Cup in Gillingham and Cup of Flanders in Belgium.

Christmas opening times WE’d like to take this opportunity to wish all our members a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Our last session before Christmas will be on Sat 22nd December, with the trampoline centre opening again on January 2nd 2013. From everyone at NTGA, have a fantastic time!

All three trips provided brilliant experience for some of our younger members who hadn’t competed abroad before, as well as opportunities for our older competitors to hone their skills. Penny Mitchell and Sophie Gardner picked up second and third respectively in Portugal while Matt Russell and Josh Jones were both finalists at the competition. Amanda Harris, who ended ninth while on Great Britain duty at the Loule World Cup, picked up gold at the Dave Ward Hunt Cup with Lawrence Breslin (Junior Boys) and Sophie Gardner (U21 Ladies) both finishing just outside the medal positions in fourth place in their respective events.

Picture: www.alisdairtait.com A sickness bug struck the team on the way to Belgium with Lawrence Breslin, Sophie Gardner, Amanda Harris and Steve Walsh quarantined at the back of the bus. Sophie shrugged off her illness to take a fantastic silver medal in the Under 21 Ladies and to cap off a great few weeks personally, Amanda picked up a bronze medal in the Senior Ladies. Amanda and Sophie, Brett Coleman and Josh Jones, and Ross Tait and Charlie Miller all made the finals of the synchronised events, finishing outside the medals.
