Program
THERMAE
Inspired by Roman baths but adapted for contemporary visitors, this bath reconciles the historic social program of Roman designs with a modern meditative bath program. The concrete wall that serves as entry seperates these two seemingly contradictory programs. The primary bath space serves to socially condense visitors. The slab lifted into the great bath forms a central stage and sitting area. Bath niches with controllable transparency create pockets of intimacy within this larger open space for groups of bathers. Various levels of changing transparency create voyeuristic opportunities, inviting bathers to interact.
