Bath business closures hit hard By Jeff Smith Steuben Courier
BATH - The recent closure of the Chat-A-Whyle Restaurant on Liberty Street is the talk of the Bath community and, combined with the upcoming closures of Kmart and the Bath Building Company, will have a huge impact on village taxes, Mayor Bill von Hagn told The
Leader. “I was shocked, just like the rest of the community,” von Hagn said of the Chat-A-Whyle Restaurant’s unexpected closure. “It’s a huge hit, just like the closure of Kmart and Bath Building Co., but the village has to work within the confines that we are dealt.” He said village officials will continue to work on the down-
town area to make it a nice place to visit. “But we cannot force people to go into restaurants or any business in the downtown,” von Hagn added. “What is disheartening is it really requires folks to go out and participate in businesses if they want them to stay.” The Chat-A-Whyle Restaurant had been in business since the mid-1930s.

HAMMONDSPORT – Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery on Middle Road in Hammondsport was recently named to Wine & Spirits Magazine’s Top 100 Wineries of 2019 – its second time in several years it’s been featured on the exclusive list. Wine & Spirit Magazine, one of the most prominent publications in the industry, also featured Dr. Frank’s in its 2016 Top 100 edition. The magazine’s annual Top 100 list is international and features wineries from multiple countries around the globe. Dr. Franks was among the dozens of wineries featured on the list from the United States. But it was the only one featured from New York.

BATH - Construction work around the front entrance of the Bath VA Medical Center, originally planned to be completed in late September, has been pushed back to a mid-January completion date. Kathleen Hider, VA Public Affairs Officer, said the delay is due to additional steel work needed on the heavily-used bridge at the entrance.
