MIDWEST BACK IN BLACK MARCH 17 2024 1:00 PM CST SUNDAY Sale Facility Address: 38056 HEDGE LN. PAOLA, KS 66071

On behalf of the Crescent Hill Black Herefords family and friends, I would like to thank you for your interest in our program. Since 2012 we have been striving to get to the point where we felt we could have our first live production sale and we believe we have reached that point. In this sale, you will find cattle with some of the most proven genetics in the Black Hereford breed paired with some of the best Hereford Genetics.

This sale runs deep in quality bulls and females. We believe, along with our friends and partners at Wolf Black Herefords, Jenkins Cattle Ranch, and 4B Black Herefords, that we have put together a group of cattle and genetic lots that can satisfy anything a customer is looking for. Our bulls and heifers all have DNA on file with the American Black Hereford Association. We have a group of bulls in the sale that have been Approved Herd Sire (AHS) tested and have Genomically Enhanced EPDs. Those bulls have been tested and are free of the required genetic defects by the ABHA. All other bulls are clear by pedigree and can be APH tested as well.

All four operations represented in this sale have very similar philosophies when it comes to herd management and breeding decisions. We all believe that any great herd has to start with finding proven genetics with maternal merit and characteristics. Behind any great bull you will find a powerful cow. We truly believe that we are building our herds with that in mind. You will see throughout the sale multiple animals that go back to Dams of Supremacy. The cattle in this sale are all raised on grass until weaning at which point we start to develop our cattle on our feed ration with longevity of the animal in mind

I also want to acknowledge our farms direct partnerships with Hidden Rock Ranch (HRR) owned by Travis and Penny Burchett, Grass Creek Farms (GCF) owned by Wayne and Debbie Burchett, and Greg and Christine Windisch (GWC). Nothing brings more joy than getting to work with family on something that we all enjoy. I want to thank all three families for their continued efforts to raise quality cattle.

Sincerely,

The Jones Family & Crescent Hill Black Herefords

• There are a lot of things to like about this bull. Poseidon 3042 is a son of Jo Honcho out of a cow that hits it out of the park on her calves. Her first bull went to 4B Black Herefords and did a nice job for him, and we have two daughters of hers in our herd. When you look at how 3042 performed you will understand why. He weaned off the cow at 732 lbs. for a ratio of 127 in a strong pen of bulls. Sitting in the top 15% in the ABHA for his weaning weight EPD and top 1% for his milk EPD, this bull can be utilized in about any situation. He is sure to catch a lot of eyes in the pens on sale day. He has that look to match his performance.

He is out of our D36 cow who is a Dam of Supremacy and always brings home a good one. Look at his EPD profile, top 10% in both calving ease and birth weight EPD’s. Then top 15% for Milk, CEM, Docility, and both indexes. This is a bull that we would recommend for use on heifers.

• Look at this bull’s performance. He had an adjusted wean weight of 675 lbs. That is what you can expect from these good High Roller bulls. His dam is a good Jo Sonic Boom daughter who was used with a lot of success in our program. The Sonic Boom daughters are sound and good uddered cattle who do a good job raising a calf. • Had this bull been black he would have had real consideration to keep as our next herdsire. As it turned out, he is a dark cherry red. When you take a look at his EPD profile 8 of our 16 EPD’s are in the top 25% of the ABHA and 12 of 16 are in the top 45% of the ABHA. We are not in the business of raising red bulls but they are the result of using great genetics to help move our herd forward and Red Man was too good to turn into a steer we believed. He is best suited for use on a mature cow herd.

Black Socks is one of the most complete bulls we have ever seen or used in the ABHA. His bulls are outstanding and makes beautiful females. Which is why he was the natural choice to flush 255H to. We purchased 255H from the Jensens Bros 2021 Chosen Hereford sale. We knew when we partnered with 4B Black Herefords and Jenkins Cattle Ranch we were getting something very special. Look at her pedigree, a daughter of Genesis and their famous Misty cow line. This is why we believe that 254 ET may be the best heifer we have ever raised to date.

Her dam has entered our donor pen after proving herself time and time again. The 431 cow has 13 progeny with an average weaning weight ratio of 111.7! 431’s dam had an average wean weight ratio of 114. Both of those cows are top 1% for Milk in the ABHA. Lady Hero herself is in the top 3% for milk. We believe in this cow line enough we used a herd bull out of 431. Her dam is a good cow that goes back to Jo Lightning A923 who has produced some of the best females in the Jo Bulls program in Utah. • The more Launch Pad heifers I write footnotes for, the more impressed I am with this bull. If you are looking to add some powerful females take a good hard look at these Launch Pad heifers. 325 is out of a first calf heifer that just knocked it out of the park with a weaning weight ratio of 110. With a strong EPD profile and a milk EPD in the top 4% this heifer could have a lasting impact in an existing herd or be a great start for a new breeder!

• 327 is a really well built Homozygous black heifer that combines Jo Honcho and an outstanding F1 dam. This is a heifer that could be utilized in a lot of different ways. She has a solid EPD profile and is built to last in a herd.

• This Rockwell daughter is marked very traditionally. Her dam is a cow we purchased a few years back out of Sweet T Farms from a National Heifer sale. She has been solid for us producing some nice heifer calves in the past as well as 330. With Black Hereford greats in her pedigree like Curvebender, Bullseye and Lightning she is going to end up being a great cow. Don’t sleep on these younger heifers, they come from outstanding genetics and will go out and get the job done for you.

• The only Hulk 1054 heifer in the sale! We spoke about how good The Hulk is early in the catalog and here is your chance to own the only daughter that will be available this year. Lady Hulk is out of a good Hereford daughter of Churchill Red Bull 200Z. This heifer had a wean weight ratio of 108 and is reflected in her growth EPD’s as well, top 10% for WW and top 15% for YW.

Here is a mating that checks a lot of boxes. 0832’s Progeny have been a mainstay for the JoBulls program and 917 is known for tremendous growth while maintaining a good amount of look and calving ease. Combine the two and reap the benefits!

• We are extremely excited to offer semen on our new herd sire we acquired this past fall from the annual Burns Farms Bull Sale. BFS ROCKET 1227 was one of the most talked about Black Hereford bulls to sell recently. After commanding $15,000 at auction, we quickly got him to stud to start collection. We truly believe that this bull is one of a kind when you combine his soundness of structure, bold rib cage, and sheer presence on the move, wrapped up in a PUREBRED package. Big numbered with a stellar pedigree, tie onto what we at 4B believe is a breed changer type sire! Non-Certificate AI Sire
