Healy Simmental Bull Sale 2025

Page 1

Dear cattle producers,

WELCOME to our annual production sale. 2025 marks our 47th year in the Simmental breed. On behalf of our family, we would like to thank you for your interest in our proven and reliable cattle program.

Every year when I sit down to write this letter, it is always nice to reflect back on the past year. Whether it be the livestock or the kid’s sports activities, we feel that you need to continually learn and improve each year. We are very excited about the bulls offered in the sale and feel they are the most uniform set of bulls from top to bottom. With the record setting cattle prices, picking out a bull that will add more pounds to your next calf crop is more important now than ever.

The bulls are semen tested and checked for soundness. With our growing family and little helpers running around, we cannot, and will not, put up with any high headed or ground pawing cattle. This is a live sale and each bull will walk through the sale ring. We do this to give you a better look at the investment you are about to make. If these bulls would not work on our farm, they definitely would not be sold to a fellow cattleman. We realize that your success depends on our breeding program and we want to have quality bulls from the first lot to the last bull in the sale ring.

Once again, we have a Charolais option in the sale. These select bulls have gained and performed better then we have hoped and we can’t wait to see them out in your pasture improving you bottom line. As you can see from the donors pictured in the sale book, these Char bulls come from tremendous maternal bloodlines.

All of these bulls were fed to develop into breeding machines and not to get fat. We are not a feedlot and we do not feed our bulls like they are in one. Hard fed fat bulls will only be problematic with structure and reproduction. We believe that when you buy a bull from us, they have to be problem free, add more pounds to your next calf crop, along with more heifers in your keeper pen.

Seeing all of the repeat mommas making their catalog appearance again just makes me smile. Year in and year out these high-quality bull making girls just seem to click for us. All of these bulls were bred here and were raised here on the farm.

We would like to offer a special thank you to our repeat customers and welcome our new buyers. Without your continued support and belief in our program, this would not be possible. Also, we would like to thank our family, friends and neighbors who help us out around the farm whenever we seem to be in need of an extra hand.

This year we will be again offering $200 to you, the buyer, if you take your bull home the day of the sale from Stockmen’s. If you are unable to take your bull the day of the sale, we will keep them until April 1, 2025 at no charge and then deliver; free delivery within 250 miles. After April 1st we will take care of them for $3.50 a day. We will give the best care to the bulls we take home but will not be responsible for sickness, injury or death. We strongly recommend the buyer insuring their newly acquired bull if we take them home.

We look forward to visiting with you on sale day February 7, 2025 at Stockmen’s Livestock, Yankton SD. We will be more than happy to answer any questions you have prior to the sale or stop by the farm anytime to visit and view the bulls.

Explanation of How to utilize API & TI Indexes

First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described to the left, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a $50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000.

A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For more information, visit www. simmental.org

As you can see, Buckshot makes great bulls also. This is a high performance bull, deep muscled. Gaining over 5 pounds a day. You will want to keep every daugther.

Another Backdraft out of a really nice Buckshot cow. He is thick and deep. Gaining over 5 pounds a day. He should sire really good feeder calves that will sell heavy.

Polled. We purchased Charolais cows from Brent Theil of LT Charolais. Molly was one of them. She is perfect uddered and great to be around. Rushmore is a calving ease bull in the Charolais breed. This bull is really high in calving ease and maternal traits. He is gaining 6 pounds a day.

Polled. 3180 is an ET brother to 3179. This bull is a low birth weight performance bull. Gaining 6.5 pounds per day, checked it three times! Super long-bodied and thick. This bull’s calves should really grow in the feed yard.

SULL Casino 3621L

We purchased this fall Angus bull, Sull Casino, for our small registered Angus herd, from Sullivan Farms spring on-line sale. We decided to sell him because we AI our Angus cows and it’s not fair to a bull this good not to have a lot of calves out of him. Being a KR Casino and out of KDJ Queen Ruth 608 cow, this bull will sire high caliber show heifers. Queen Ruth 608 is a full sister to Queen Ruth 502, the dam of the Casino heifer that sold for $500,000 to Sara Sullivan. Sull Casino has the same pedigree as that heifer.
