Do you know what special thing is happening at our house today? It’s Mama’s birthday!
How do you think they will celebrate?
I want to do something special for Mama. She works so hard for us all. What would she like?
Oh, I know! Her favorite Tres Leches cake! Three milk cake!
Mama says it tastes like home. Can you guess any of the ingredients that go into three milk cake?
First, mix the dry ingredients together, then add wet ingredients. Pour into a buttered cake pan and bake at 325 °F for 35 minutes.
Tres Leches Milk Mixture: 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14oz) 1 can evaporated milk (12oz)
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 1⁄2 teaspoon vanilla
Next, prepare the milk mixture and pour over the finished cake while still in the pan. Let the milk mixture soak into the spongy cake. Mmm... Yum! Top with whipped cream and strawberries. 1 1⁄4 cup flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1⁄4 teaspoon salt 1⁄2 cup butter (melted) 1 cup sugar 5 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla
Luckily I have Grandma’s recipe. All I need to do is follow it. Easy peasy!
Which of these ingredients is white?
Oh no! Mama’s baking ingredients aren’t labeled! All the white powders look the same! How many jars can you count?
A special birthday surprise without cake? This is going to be a disaster!
STEMTaught scientists! Could you use science and your microscopes to help me figure out which white powder is which? Unless...
Look at the science tools in this picture. How can they help us figure out which white powder is which?
