If you are grieving the loss of a loved one, the holiday season can be especially painful. Expectations, seasonal events, and the celebration of those around us often collide with our loss and sadness. Join us for this morning of prayer, reflection, journaling, and ritual rooted in our Christian faith. Find comfort and hope in our faith, and in practical suggestions for navigating the holiday season.

Upcoming Events NOVEMBER 2: Women & the Eucharist: How Love Changed Their Lives Jayne Porcelli will focus on Clare of Assisi, Elizabeth Seton, and Dorothy Day and their great devotion to the Eucharist, and how the importance and beauty of the Eucharist was central to the hearts of these amazing women.

Come learn why and discover the power of the Eucharist to transform us too.

NOVEMBER 16: Care for God’s Creation Liz Philippe will share with us Pope Francis’ vision of care for the earth, our common home, as presented in his 2015 pastoral letter, Laudato Si, and his new pastoral letter on stewardship of creation, released on October 4, 2023.

NOVEMBER 30: Explanatory Mass Fr. Donald Baker will celebrate Mass in the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Chapel (in the Parish Center) with explanations throughout the Mass on the prayers, actions, and postures.

When we understand what we are doing and why we’re doing it, we can come to a deeper understanding and love of the Eucharist!

All Theology Thursday events are at 6:30pm in the Parish Center.

T wenty--n inthh Sundayy inn Ordinaryy Time K-8 Religious Education and Sacramental Preparation: Children’s Liturgy of the Word during the 10am Mass on Sundays Young children (the content is geared to ages 3 or 4 up until 1st or 2nd grade) begin Mass with their families, and then are brought to the Ward’s Room (off the sacristy) during the Liturgy of the Word and return to their families during the Preparation of the Gifts. This helps them to participate in the Mass at an age-appropriate level.

K-8 Religious Education sessions have resumed at 11:10am in the Parish Center. If you have not registered, bring your checkbook, and arrive early to complete paperwork for your children!

K-8 Religious Education will not meet on the 5th Sunday of the month.

There will be no session on Sunday, October 29 to allow our catechists to meet. There will also be no session on Sunday, November 5, due to the running of the NYC Marathon on 1st Avenue that morning.

Adult Sacraments of Initiation (RCIA) Have you ever thought about becoming Catholic? Or are you a baptized Catholic who has not yet celebrated First Communion or Confirmation? Five Minute Jesus Using the Gospel for Prayer Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time - October 29, 2023 It’s simple. Read the Gospel for next Sunday slowly, reflecting on the story it tells. Consider the questions asked each day. What conversion of heart, mind, and life might the Lord be asking of you at this moment of your life? Make a resolution about how your reflection of God’s Word might be lived out that day. Thank God for speaking to you through your reflection.

MATTHEW 22: 34-40 When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered, and one of them, a scholar of the law, tested him by asking, “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” He said to him, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

Monday, October 23 The tension between Jesus and the religious leaders in Jerusalem continues as a Pharisee tests Jesus, asking him which of all the commandments is the greatest. His response is direct. Can you summarize Jesus’ response in your own words?

Tuesday, October 24 Can I love God and not love my neighbor? Can I love my neighbor and not love God? What rationale am I providing for my answers? How do I define love?

Wednesday, October 25 Jewish Law is made meaningful and relevant through the question asked of Jesus. How does Jesus’ response propose an integral connection between the two aspects (the two commandments) of the Jewish Law? Thursday, October 26 Matthew’s expression of the second commandment is “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Do you love yourself? How do you love yourself? Can you list examples?
