OUR MISSION

The mission of Stella is to inspire, equip, and propel diverse female founders to successfully launch, grow, and sustain their businesses while cultivating a thriving network of investors to increase equality for women-led startups.

OUR HER-STORY

Stella was founded by Dr. Silvia Armitano Mah, PhD, MBA in 2012 with the vision of equal representation of female founders and funders across the venture table.

What originated as an in-depth lab, pertinent to female entrepreneurs and has since evolved into a high-impact social enterprise that has powered over 500 female founders to raise more than $101 million.

UNMET NEED & PEOPLE SERVED

Although women make up 50% of the population, just 2% of venture capital goes to women-led startups. It’s no surprise, as representation is astoundingly limited ‘at the top.’ In fact, the percentage of female decisionmakers at U.S. venture capital firms is 14.2%,

6% Asian, 1% Black, and less than 1% Latinx. Investors fund people who look like them, so we need to get more women and minority founders a seat at the venture table.

As a result, funds will become more diverse and more women-led companies will be both recognized for their proven track record of performance and ROI – and funded.

Since 2012, Stella has helped launch or scale nearly 400 female-founded businesses and has facilitated more than $100M in funding, which means:

STELLA IMPACT

THE PLATFORM

Stella’s platform is made up of over 500 people who believe in equality for female founders. The digital community is free of charge and provides access to prerecorded video courses, master classes, one-on-one advisory sessions, group sessions, mentorship matching, and features on Stella’s media. Premium content is available.

Stella Labs is the program that digs in deep. Over the course of a year, Stella produces three live, cohort-based courses including intensive cohort (15week, 20+modules), pitch modules, and expert modules; culminating in a live pitch competition known as Demo Day. Additional access to funding made possible through Women’s Fast Pitch, Women’s Venture Summit, Stella Angels, and syndication with partnering venture capital firms.

Stella Angels is an exclusive network of 50+ accredited investors who review deals together, conduct due diligence, and invest in female founders sourced through our network. With four showcase events plus additional partner funding events, our angels choose to participate on a deal-by-deal basis. Our minimum check size is $5K for SPVs (Special Purpose Vehicles) and goes up depending on investor interest.

RESIDENCE PROGRAMS

Residence Programs include both Entrepreneur in Residence and Venture

Capitalist in Residence. These programs offer Residents the opportunity to learn more about Stella’s work, the entrepreneurial and VC ecosystem focused on, and to gain more visibility within the network.

EVENTS

The Oxytocin Tour is Stella's road trip across America! We get to meet founders and investors from all over the United States while working with mission-aligned partners.

Women's Fast Pitch is a series of five regional access-to-capital virtual events taking place across America. Finalists advance to compete at the Women’s Venture Summit for $10K investment.

Women's Venture Summit is our annual event that boosts female founders' access to capital and grows the number of investors who invest in female-led startup.

Helen is the founder of the Watering Can App, an app that helps you find a plantsitter to care for your plants while you are away.

Adriana is the founder of Lilu, a company making the first hands-free pumping bra with breast massage for breastfeeding moms.

A Mexico City native, Adriana received a $25,000 investment in her NYC startup as well as $35,000 in business services from the Women's Venture Summit community. As a result of coming to San Diego for Women’s Venture Summit, Adriana was also able to attend the Lattitude conference where she was able to secure a $500,000 investment, which was eligible for a National Science Foundation matching grant in nondilutive funding.
