Trench sheets provide a simple, yet effective shoring mechanism for excavation, allowing contractors to install using a conventional excavator. A trench sheet is a light weight steel product that has a high strength to weight ratio, providing a safe environment to work in trenches.

Trench Sheet applications include (but not limited to) basement and foundation excavation, sewerage, water, gas and other services providers. These sheets can be used multiple times depending on the soil conditions, care during use and weather conditions.

INSTALLATION & EXTRACTION TECHNIQUES OF TRENCH SHEETS For Installation, the only equipment required is an excavator and a lifting chain. By attaching the chain to the lifting eye available on the excavator arm, feed the other end of the chain through the lifting hole provided at the top of the trench sheet, and lift into position. Use a “grounds man� to assist with positioning the trench sheet in the correct location. Ensure lifting eye and chain are certified and use only competent personnel to complete the task.

Once the trench sheet is in the correct location (ensuring the sheet is plumb), use the bottom of the excavator bucket to push down on the top of the sheet. The sheet should slowly penetrate the soil until the required depth is achieved. The chain can then be removed, and the next sheet is ready to be installed.

Upon completion of the works and the trench/pit is satisfactorily backfilled, sheets can be safely extracted by using the same equipment used in installation. The chain is to be passed through the lifting hole in the trench sheet and back into the lifting eye of the excavator, and simply pulled out of the ground by lifting the excavator arm. Ensure the area is clear of personnel during such time when the excavator is swinging the sheet into the loading area.

Installation and extraction can also be performed by a piling rig (ABI or similar) should the ground conditions not permit the use of the conventional method above.
