I own an injection moulding unit in the UK. I have installed four moulding machines within the plant in two separate sections. Last month I observed a curious phenomenon when the winds and hailstorms started affecting my plant. The percentage of product rejections rose dramatically from 2% to 15%. My customers had given me tolerance of 3%. I was alarmed at the inverse in percentage within a short time.

Cause Analysis – Every Test Proved Negative We have devised an analytical method in which we check for the rejection causes among men, material, machine and methods. Our production engineers tested every component for tplant room doorshese symptoms. Surprisingly everything was OK. We tested for temperature variation, humidity, and many other things and found nothing to be wrong.

Radiation from Neighbouring Plant – Key Cause of Rejection After 15 days of research and analysis, our team could find the real culprit, at last, It was the radiation from the thermal unit that processed charcoal. The radiations carried all kinds of damaging elements into our plant and affected the raw materials that were being poured into the hopper of the injection machine.

We tried to change the pouring method from a manual to an automated system. Even then the problem remained persistent. Then we tried to change the protection windows and doors in our plant, The problems continued unabated.

Finally, we took the help of a professional consultant to solve the problem. He came and inspected our plant and the neighbouring areas. Then he suggested that we use steel .

That changed everything.

Reduced Reductions – Plus Enhanced Productivity From that day, the rejections from plant reduced to 1.4%. It was something I had never expected. The added bonus was an increase in productivity. The production rate per-shift increased by 10%. It was another pleasant surprise for me and our production team. The customers also started giving us positive feedback about the quality of our products.

These were the things that not only surprised but also shocked us.

Plant Doors – Magic of Protection Wall The installation of a few plant doors in my production units was sufficient to improve the air quality, eliminate radiations, and to create an ambient environment within the plant.

The humidity levels dropped significantly and the dryness in the air disappeared. The machines including the hydraulic pumps started to cool naturally. The role of coolant was also reduced considerably.

Fire Resistance – Key to Maximum Plant Security The fire rated steel doors installed within the electrical control room increased the security against fire to more than 99%. Of course, we had to remove all the flammable materials from near the electrical panels as a precautionary measure. We constructed a separate room for the raw materials and separated it from the electrical panel room with the plant room doors.

The sealing has been so effective that we got the award for the safest and most productive injection moulding unit in our city for the year 2018-19.

Conclusion The plant room doors have given my plant the freedom from radiation and noise pollution. It has increased productivity and reduced rejections.
