St. Edmund’s dancers gather for their first ever Dance Showcase! Enjoy the achievements of our incredible pupils, as our talented dancers, from the playful Pre-Preppers through to our step-ball-changing Seniors, take centre stage. A veritable feast of dance awaits, with pieces inspired by The Greatest Showman, alongside solo and group choreography by GCSE and Sixth Form Dance students.
Allow our Form 3, 4 & 5 dancers to take you on the dancing journey of your dreams! The choreography is centered around what the pupils wish to be when they’re older. Whether it’s a fireman or a nurse, or if it’s to be brave, patient or determined, our dancers explored what kind of person they see in their future. The pupils worked continually hard to produce and perfect a beautiful dance piece that we all hope you enjoy.

Maja and Marie have worked hard to produce a moving contemporary duet centered around breaking free from confinement and restriction. They focused on the idea of pushing and pulling to generate their own movement, engaging their audience in a clear narrative.

For Gabrielle’s Unit 8 assessment, she was inspired by the physical theatre work of DV8. She created her own version of “Can I be straight with you ” , highlighting key issues that exist in our society today.

“Low” is a dance consisting of hip hop and commercial movements such as ripples, popping, locking and isolations. Fast and sharp dynamics are used to create a engaging and exciting performance.
Lucy chose the stimulus “sleep” to create her solo for her GCSE Choreography. “Somnium” is a dance which investigates the amount of power you have to dictate what happens when you fall asleep. With balletic movements that are smooth and soft with sudden faster dynamics to illustrate a power struggle of what happens when you shut your eyes.
“Comatose” is a dance which illustrates a person trapped in a position without the ability to speak, move or interact with others. The idea of being trapped inside a coma is explored, the thoughts that occur circle round without a clear outlet.
Maja Spital (U5)
Marie’s solo “paralysed” tells the story of a person who feels as though they’ve lost their way and are trapped inside their body. It explores themes of escapism, isolation and the power of emotions.

“L.O.V.E” is an upbeat number which is sure to have you swaying along in your seat! This tap dance has fluid and smooth dynamics and works with the music to create a lighthearted and uplifting atmosphere. Isobel originally performed this solo for her grade 5 tap exam.

"Pathways to home” explores the different journeys we go on in life and how our paths cross with different people along the way. The connections we make on our journeys are what make certain pathways possible. This piece is the U5’s trio performance for their GCSE Dance exam.

“Running with the wolves” is a powerful choreography centered around the idea of breaking free from the monotony of life and getting back in touch with the natural world. What happens when we are reunited with our animalistic heritage and let go of the materialistic elements of modernday life?
