Roles of Responsibility

A key role of all students here at St Columba’s is to use the leadership skills that you have developed in your education to date and to use these skills for the benefit of the student body. For those of you who are new to St Columba’s, we welcome the skills, ideas and experiences that you can bring from your previous school, to help us to continue to improve.
Every student should be a leader in some way - whether it is to help other pupils, be a mentor or take on a position of responsibility. There are roles to suit every talent; from future entrepreneurs, to those developing skills to become leaders of the future, or simply those learning how to work as a part of a successful team.
Please note that you need to put in an application for some of these roles and complete it by the deadline stated at the time.
Also, make sure that you write a formal letter of application where required and address it to the correct member of staff.
Lastly, remember the more involved you are with the wider College community during your time here at St Columba’s, the greater the memories that you will create and the bigger the legacy that you will leave. You will learn important skills for future roles within the school, for applications such as UCAS, university life and for positions that you take on after leaving school.
Good luck and we look forward to working with you during your time at St Columba’s College.
Foreword from the Headmaster
Dear Columbans,
Having experienced first-hand the student responsibility system in place here at St Columba’s and the exciting opportunities on offer, I can safely say that getting involved with student responsibility is a great way of contributing to our community, as well as gaining invaluable skills and experiences!

Within the student responsibility system there are numerous roles, each of which requires a different skill set and personality: there truly is something on offer for everybody. Whether it be Form Captain, Prefect or Head Boy/Girl, positions of responsibility cater for the hugely diverse community we are proud to have within the student body.
These roles are not to be taken lightly: they require commitment, passion, and dedication. However, if embarked upon, student responsibility positions can open up opportunities to develop friendships, skills and a greater understanding of the inner-workings of St Columba’s.
I cannot emphasise enough the benefits of applying for a position of responsibility and wish you the best of luck in all your endeavours!
Mr Guest Headmaster
Foreword from The Dean
The students chosen to serve as Prefects (House Captain, Head Boy, Head Girl) will be those who are promoters of unity, who show respect and trust, and who have a capacity for attentive listening.
(Adapted from the Brothers Rule of Life).
This reflects the spirit of our Founder, Father André Coindre, whose entire life was devoted to a compassionate response to the needs of young people.
