Summer option for current Kindergarteners, and 1st graders!

While St. Columba School won’t be hosting a summer camp this year, Ms Sherry, our amazing preschool director, would like to welcome any of our current Kindergarteners and 1st graders to join in for some summer fun. This program will take place at the preschool, but Sherry and her staff plan to take these older kids and keep them engaged with awesome age appropriate activities for them as well as take them on walking field trips to the river, parks, library events, etc

Please sign up HERE for this summer opportunity.

St. Columba Spring Auction

As you know our in-person event has pivoted to an online auction This is exciting because it opens the auction to everyone - even those who had schedule conflicts with the in-person event. Classroom art projects, themed baskets, and experiences will be available at the online auction. Many parents generously gave their time to work with our students to create one of a kind pieces. In addition to the art, there will be unique experience packages like Principal For the Day and a hosted Dinner with the Firefighters at the Fire Station (The firefighters will pick you and your family up at your home in the fire truck and take you to the fire station!). Please watch for an email announcing the auction. Bidding will be open for at least a week and conclude before school is dismissed for the year. This is a critical fundraiser to wrap the year. So bid high and bid often!

Auction Needs:As always, your helping hands would be greatly appreciated in making this a successful event.

Contributions Needed to the School Auction “Basket” Collection by Wednesday, May 1st: There is a single online school-wide collection for basket items. The suggested amount is $5-$10 per student, which will be distributed among the room parents to shop local, support our sponsors, and create beautifully curated baskets to bid on You can donate to the basket fund HERE or drop cash or check (payable to St. Columba School) off to Heidi. The deadline to contribute to the basket fund is extended to Wednesday, May 1st.

CHROMEBOOK SALE

St. Columba will be getting new Chromebooks for 4th - 8th grade next school year. We will be selling our old Chromebooks for $20 each. These Chromebooks (Samsung 500c) will be sold as is; please note that these are out of date and can no longer be updated. That being said, they are still in working order and will work for most of your student's academic needs at home.

You may reserve a Chromebook by submitting a $20 check (made out to St. Columba School) or cash to the office or Mrs. Bowman. We have a limited number of Chromebooks, so sales are first come first serve. We will send them home with students on the last day of school.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

BELOW ARE WEEKLY SCRIPTURE REFLECTION QUESTIONS TO HELP INDIVIDUALS ENRICH THEIR FAITH BY CONTEMPLATING SUNDAY READINGS.

Based on the readings for the 5th Sunday of Easter

Readings: Acts 9:26-31/1 Jn 3:18-24/Jn 15:1-8 (53) Pss I

We continue with reading the Acts of the Apostles and this weekend find Saul’s introduction to the apostles in Jerusalem Saul had been a violent persecutor of Christians until his baffling experience on the way to Damascus Struck blind, Saul heard, “Why are you persecuting me?” I am Jesus whom you are persecuting ” After needing the help of a Christian healer to see again, Saul began preaching about Jesus to the confusion of all he encountered. Understandably, the Jerusalem apostles were confused, afraid This radical conversion (literally ‘turning around’) of Saul, also now known as Paul was shocking Some of us have had experiences like this when everything we thought we knew about Christ was turned upside down. What did this disorientation cost? What have we gained?

“Love is not words or mere talk it must be true love which shows itself in action ” Many of us have experienced falling in love. Do you remember the “high” that came with that initial experience? Were you content to just feel the love or did you have the urgency to demonstrate how much the other meant? How can this experience bring perspective to loving God? Is there any urgency because of our love for God?

Jesus’ reflection on the vine and the branches is part of John’s five chapter Last Supper discourse The image is both intimate and wonder-filled Unfortunately, our modern translation of “abide” into ‘remain’ loses a bit of nuance To abide: to live fully; to be aware of where life comes from; to be in the moment; to be aware that remaining on this vine is essential; to be aware that we are not the source of life, but radically integrated into it; to have a powerful sense of belonging with others to the source of abiding Our source who is Christ This (perhaps archaic) abide provides more depth than simply “to remain.” Building on the nuanced abide, how does this reality affect us when there is a loss, a ‘branch’ that is removed? Do we still abide in Christ? As we see our lives become productive, how does abiding in Christ surge new energy that we have furthered the divine plan? Is there any choice in responding to other’s needs when we all rely on Christ the Vine?
