and Welcome to District 742 Early Childhood Education
On behalf of the entire Early Childhood Programs team, I’m excited to connect with you! Whether your child is joining our preschool program or participating in our ECFE classes, we’re thrilled to have you as part of our learning community. We offer Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) classes for parents/caregivers and children birth through prekindergarten, as well as Preschool classes for 3 and 4 year-olds.
We have a wide variety of Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) classes for parents/caregivers and children ages birth through prekindergarten, and our ECFE program is designed to be a nurturing and supportive environment for both you and your young child. We believe that the most important teachers in a child’s life are their parents and caregivers, and our program aims to empower you with the knowledge and tools to foster your child’s social, emotional, and intellectual development. This catalog contains information and registration forms for our 2025-26 ECFE classes, and I hope you take the time to browse our catalog because I am sure we have a class offering you will be interested in. You can register for any ECFE class online or call our school office at 320-370-8250 for more information or to register.

We also offer Preschool classes for 3 and 4-year-old children for Fall of 2025 and registration is happening now. Our 3-year-old preschool classes will be held at Quarryview Education Center, and our 4-year-old preschool classes are held at our elementary school sites. Finally, we will be holding a variety of FREE family events throughout the year such as our Fall Festival, 742 ECFE Expo, Spring Fling and our Saturday Run and Reads where children ages birth to 5 have fun, learn and receive a free book! The schedule for these events can be found in our catalog or on our Facebook page. I look forward to seeing you and your family at a class or at one of our family events!

Welcome to ECFE
Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) believes that parents are the child’s first and most important teacher. We provide quality learning opportunities and resources for parents and their children from birth to kindergarten entry. Parents and children attend ECFE class together. If ECFE is new to you, we invite you to arrange a visit/tour of our Early Childhood Center. A typical ECFE class includes:
GROWING TOGETHER: For You and Your Child
Play with your child as he or she explores and learns in a play environment. Grow together through art, music, story books and other age-appropriate toys and materials.
GROWING INDEPENDENTLY: For Your Child
During their play and snack time, the early childhood educator will guide children as they interact with others and as they continue to develop positive attitudes about themselves.
Join other parents, in an informal setting, for discussion led by a licensed parent educator. Parents have the opportunity to share ideas and feel encouraged with the support of others.

ECFE Baby Talk
For parents and infants to 12 months. Classes include time with educators who are knowledgeable about infants, and time with other parents of infants. Drop in each week or come when it works for you. No need to register just come when you can and be supported in this role of parenting an infant. Some of the topics covered will be, Adjusting to parenthood, Baby care/ caring time, Sleep, Postpartum self-care, Play, Cognitive and Social & Emotional Development, Motor & Language Development, Family Changes, and always time to talk about whatever the needs are at the moment.

Fall Special Opportunities
2SLGBTQIA+Family Group
This group offers activities for children from birth to age 5, led by a licensed early childhood teacher. A licensed parent educator will also facilitate a parent discussion group, with topics based on family needs and interests. Recognizing the challenges faced by family members of all ages and stages, this group aspires to create a safe and welcoming space to explore questions, concerns, and hopes. This group is especially intended for families with one or more members who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or questioning (LGBTQ+). We recognize that families come in many forms, and all are welcome—including allies and extended family members.

Family Literacy
The family Literacy Program is a special ECFE multi-age class for parents and their children, 12 months to kindergarten entry. Parents participate in a parenting discussion group with a licensed parent educator. They also work on English language skills or a GED in partnership with Adult Basic Education. Way To Grow
For parents and children birth to 5
Way To Grow is a free ECFE program for families with classes that offer more flexibility.
• Registration is through a personal contact with a teacher and the class continues for the full school year.
• Families may join at any time.
• Regular attendance is not required.
• Classes have a more flexible schedule to meet the needs of the group.
• General Parenting topics are covered, like eating, sleeping, diapering/ toileting, behavior, care of parent, and community resources.

ECFE Class Registration
One of the primary goals in ECFE is to build relationships, particularly one on one parent and child. In order for this to happen, and out of respect for ALL families, please make other arrangements for infant siblings over 4 months of age in classes. We know this may be difficult, therefore we offer several classes for multiple children. Thank you for your understanding. *Birth to 5 classes include children who are 5 years old, but not in Kindergarten.

Fee Scale for ECFE Classes
Early Childhood Screening (for 3-4 year olds)
Minnesota law requires that all children must have a health and developmental screening before entering kindergarten in a public school.
Early Childhood Screening is a free check of how your child is growing, developing and learning. The screening includes a developmental assessment, vision and hearing testing, height and weight measurement and an immunization and health history review.
The purpose of this FREE screening is to identify children who may need additional time and experiences to be ready for school. The sooner we get started, the more likely your child will begin school with the necessary skills to succeed.

Preschool
District 742 Preschool Classes 2025-2026
District 742 Preschool classes are available to children of all ability levels and are staffed by licensed preschool teachers and paraeducators. Children must be 3 or 4 years of age by September 1, 2025 to participate. All classes begin Fall 2025 and follow the school district calendar. Bus transportation is available within designated boundaries to all preschool locations for a fee. District 742 preschool is a “Parent Aware” 4 Star Rated Program.
Voluntary Pre-K is available to children who are 4-years-old by September 1, 2025 and living within the boundaries of Discovery, Talahi, Oak Hill, Lincoln and Madison schools. There is no fee for Voluntary Pre-K and busing is free.

$180.00 for 3 half days/week
$240.00 for 4 half days/week
