Coming back to St. Cecilia Academy has indeed been a homecoming for me. Twenty years ago, I was sent here as a teacher and then returned several years later to serve as Assistant Principal of Academics. As the years pass by, my gratitude for SCA only increases as I realize more and more what I received here: a deep, experiential understanding of the mission of a Catholic high school. What I learned here allowed me to be an integral part of founding a new Catholic high school in Houston, Texas, where I have been serving for the past seven years. Returning to SCA has been a gift, and it has been a particular joy to reconnect with many former students of mine—St. Cecilia girls who have become beautiful young women and real pillars in the community and the world! I am especially grateful to the St. Cecilia principals who preceded me, most recently Sr. Anne Catherine who led the successful building campaign for a new Fine Arts Center. This beautiful new construction will house a dance studio, two art studios, and an art gallery, as well as renovations to current music and drama areas. We look forward to moving in this spring. When I returned to SCA this summer and saw the construction of a new Fine Arts building well underway, I couldn’t help but think that this building project is a visible reminder of what we are doing every day at St. Cecilia Academy: we are building. With God’s grace, we are building up these young women in every way—teaching them how to build virtues of excellence in mind and heart, helping them to build a community rooted in deep respect for the dignity of each person, inspiring them to build a culture of hope marked by freedom and peace that will radiate out to the whole world. How much the world needs these young women to be builders who create a culture in which people can truly flourish. What a high and noble task we are preparing them to meet! Annual Report 2017-2018 We accomplish all that you see on these pages because of your faithful gifts of time, financial support, and prayers. Your confidence sustains us in ways you cannot imagine. Gifts to the Annual Fund have a direct and tangible impact on the daily experiences of our students. These unrestricted funds provide ongoing support to the operating budget, allowing us to offer competitive salaries to faculty, provide need-based aid, sustain and update existing academic and extracurricular programming, and maintain our campus facilities.
