About the Program

St. Catherine University’s graduate degree in Montessori Education and Leadership is an interactive, online program that enhances your daily practice in Montessori teaching. Our flexible format allows you to complete a Master of Arts in Education (MAED) in one year while you work. This graduate program is part of the Advanced Montessori Programs at St. Catherine, distinguished for an innovative spirit, a focus on liberal arts education and a commitment to authentic Montessori practice

As a graduate student, you will be inspired to lead in the compassionate and holistic education of children by stretching your capabilities and testing your own theories while examining contemporary issues in Montessori education.

Our MAED program recognizes the value of your previous experience, and combines it with dynamic new courses that advance your knowledge in the field. You will gain valuable perspectives and insights from other students Montessori educators across the United States and abroad

Our Curriculum

St. Catherine’s 31-credit MAED degree can be completed in 12 months. We grant up to 15 graduate credits for your full Montessori teaching or administrative credential from a program accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE). A Montessori Certification Credit (MCC) fee will be assessed for these credits. The program begins with a required orientation where you will connect with fellow students and faculty, and learn about our course management software (featuring interactive discussion boards, library databases, video resources and free online tools). This training ensures that you’ll be able to easily navigate the online courses for your degree

Online Orientation: May 21, 23 and 28 (synchronous, 6:308:30 p.m. Central Time)

Online instruction: begins May 28

Graduation: May 2025

How to Apply

The priority application deadlines are January 1 (spring) and May 1 (summer). Applications received after the deadline will be considered on a space-available basis.

To be eligible for graduate admission, applicants must have:

• A bachelor’s or graduate degree from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized, regional accrediting association.

• A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (if GPA is below 3.0, an explanatory statement is required)

In addition to the MAED application form, the following materials are required:

• Personal statement

• Current résumé

• Two recommendations

• Transcripts from degree-granting institutions

• Montessori credential/diploma

• Explanatory statement (if cumulative GPA is below 3.0)

• Official scores from TOEFL or IELTS (if native language is not English)

• Credential evaluation from World Education Services (if college/university coursework was completed outside the U.S.)
