The Cardinal Virtue of Temperance "Do not follow your base desires, but restrain your appetites” Sirach 18:30.

32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time November 6, 2022 Lord, when Your glory appears my joy will be full!

Before the sin of our first parents Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, all of the physical senses were in complete harmony and controlled by reason. The uncorrupted Adam and Eve were not originally addicted to anything, nor did they experience unhealthy cravings. But after sin entered the picture, all of the physical senses, by nature good and healthy, were unleashed and were no longer controlled by reason. Our powers of self-mastery were lost, and we began to drift naturally to unhealthy excess in the pursuit of physical pleasure.

CONFESSION SCHEDULE Saturday—St. Francis Xavier—before 4:30PM Mass—3:30 to 4:15PM Sunday—St. Francis Xavier—following 8:00AM Mass—9:00 to 9:30AM Sunday—St. Augustine—following 10:30AM Mass—11:30 to 12Noon WEEKLY STEWARDSHIP REPORT Our weekly collection total was $ 5,972.14. Thank you for your generosity. LIFELINE “Death is a decisive moment in the human person’s encounter with God the Savior. Helping the Christian to experience this moment with spiritual assistance is a supreme act of charity. It encompasses the patient with the solid support of human relationships to accompany them and open them to hope. Palliative care and hospice are precious and crucial instruments in the care of patients with serious and complex chronic or terminal illnesses, and they help provide comfort to both the patients and their families.” ”

. Here are three practical ways to start on the path to temperance: Take less than what we want and savor it; next time we want to indulge ourselves, just say no; and finally, make ourselves uncomfortable. Many of the saints have said that one of our biggest enemies of our spiritual lives is the love of comfort. Temperance is usually considered a gloomy and dour virtue, practiced by those who don’t know how to have any fun. This simply isn’t true, however. When all of our appetites are controlled by reason and are working in harmony, we will find a new peace. We won’t be controlled by restless cravings and desires anymore, but will instead be able to do what we really want to do (like serve God), rather than what are passions are telling us to do. May the good Lord bless you and yours richly, now and always and forever. Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam…To the Greater Glory of God. Father Kevin PARISH MEMORIAL MASS Our Parish Memorial Mass will be held THIS Wednesday at 6:00PM at St. Augustine Church. We will have special (6) day Memorial Candles available that you can put your loved one’s name on. They will be placed in front of the Altar during Mass. After Mass you can take your candle home with you or leave them in the Church to burn throughout the week. We ask for a donation of $ 5.00 per candle to cover costs. REMEMBERING OUR BELOVED DECEASED Please bring photos of your deceased family members & friends to place on our Altars. PARISH REMEMBRANCE TREE Our CCD children will be passing out leaves as you are entering Church. You can put the name of your deceased loved ones on the leaf and place them on the Parish Remembrance Tree in front of the Altar. The Remembrance Tree will remain throughout the month of November. REPLACEMENT OF ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CHURCH STEPS The replacement of St. Francis Church steps is complete, however, the railings will not be installed for at least two weeks so that the concrete can cure. If you need the railing, please park in the gravel lot and use the ramp to get into the Church. Thank you very much to Dave Rebello and his crew at Rock Solid Landscaping & Excavating for all their hard work this week. The steps are a work of art and they are absolutely beautiful!!
