CONFESSION SCHEDULE Saturday—St. Francis Xavier—before 4:30PM Mass—3:30 to 4:15PM Sunday—St. Francis Xavier—following 8:00AM Mass—9:00 to 9:30AM Sunday—St. Augustine—following 10:30AM Mass—11:30 to 12Noon WEEKLY STEWARDSHIP REPORT Our weekly collection total was $ 2,807.00. Thank you for your generosity. LIFELINE “O God our creator… through the power and working of your Holy Spirit, you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society.” ~ United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, “Prayer for Religious Liberty”

“Thomas, you believe because you have seen me. Blessed are they who have not seen and still believe” John 20:29. Holy Mother Church celebrates the feast of Saint Thomas the Apostle, known also as “Doubting Thomas” on 3 July. The pre-1969 General Calendar celebrated the feast on 21 December in commemoration of the traditional day of his martyrdom by a spear in the year AD 72. He is the patron Saint of India having brought Christianity there beginning in AD 52. Saint Thomas gave us the earliest creed of the Church, five simple words uttered while beholding the wounds of Christ in the Upper Room, one of the most poignant passages in all the Bible: “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). It is that simple yet profound faith that Saint Thomas carried to the very “ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8) as Christ commanded. The formation of this parish under the patronage of Saint Brigid in 2010 brought together many churches, parishes and their patrons whose feasts we can celebrate throughout the course of the liturgical year: Saint Augustine, Saint Joseph, Saint Francis Xavier, Saint Thomas the Apostle, Saint Patrick, even Saint John the Evangelist and St. Luke more loosely. Being the birthplace of Catholicism in northeast Pennsylvania and the Diocese of Scranton is something in which we can all be proud. The parishes and communities that came together to form Saint Brigid’s Parish have a rich history all their own, and it is important that we not only remember but celebrate that history as we grow in greater unity as one parish. To that end we are celebrating the feast of Saint Thomas the Apostle at Saint Francis Xavier Church in Friendsville both Saturday and Sunday, and will consecrate an icon of Saint Thomas for display there in honor of Saint Thomas Parish in Little Meadows. While the doors of the church there closed on 19 June 2010, we recognize the parish of Saint Thomas as the spiritual and sacramental roots of many in Saint Brigid’s parish today. Many were baptized, received First Holy Communion, attended Mass, went to confession, were confirmed or even exchanged nuptial vows there over the years. From its humble beginnings in the 1880s, Saint Thomas Parish in Little Meadows served so many for so long so well. We are who we are today because Saint Thomas Parish was what it was for over a century. For “those who have seen” the life of faith there, we celebrate you and your rich past this weekend; for “those who have not seen,” may the spirit of Saint Thomas inflame greater love and devotion to the Lord, Holy Mother Church and Saint Brigid Parish, now and always and forever.
