ASMSU started taking steps to form a partnership with the nationwide “It’s On Us” campaign earlier this month.

The campaign was introduced by President Barack Obama in September and includes a pledge which highlights four primary goals — to recognize that non-consensual sex is sexual assault, to identify situations in which sexual assault may occur, to intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given and to create an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported.

As part of the campaign, ASMSU will begin fundraising to hire a new counselor at the MSU Counseling Center and decrease the length of their current wait-list for sexual assault victims.

As of right now, the wait-list is about four weeks long with 10 people on it.

This is a ridiculous amount of time for survivors of sexual assault and abuse to have to wait. For those four weeks, survivors will have to deal with the trauma while waiting to be seen by a counselor.

Caring for survivors after the assault or abuse has happened is an important part of the healing process. While ensuring that sexual assault is prevented on campus is vital, the care for survivors during the aftermath should not be disregarded.

However, the push for change will need to come from other outside sourc-

es. University officials need to realize this is an issue worth investing time and funding in. With how much that is already dedicated to sexual assault prevention, the same amount could be invested in what happens after the initial trauma.

This doesn’t mean that attention should be taken away from preventing sexual assault ­— this is an issue that should always be kept in mind, that won’t go away any time soon unless steps are constantly being made to make this campus safer for everyone around.

This simply means that the problem is still prevalent and will continue to weigh on the victim long after an assault has taken place. Reading and signing the pledge, and the tips on preventing sexual assault detailed online, is one way students can take action for the cause into their own hands.

But at the end of the day, even more steps need to be taken towards care during the aftermath of a sexual assault or sexual abuse. While it’s on all of us to make campus a safer environment, it’s also on us to help those who experienced the trauma feel safe again.

The same amount of care given to preventing sexual assault needs to also be directed towards the survivors, and it’s on university officials to ensure that they receive it.

Despite recommendations, students don’t study two hours a week for every credit hour The U.S. Department of Education defines a credit hour as “not less than one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out of class work for each week”

Time management is an essential skill in order to survive college. Between extracurriculars, classes and studying, why is it that students always seem to be short on time, even with diligently planned schedules?

The answer might be attached to credit hours, which often determine a student’s work schedule, study load and stress level.

In 2009, the U.S. Department of Education’s definition of a credit hour included the ratio of “not less than one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out of class work for each week for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester.”

However, more and more students in recent years are not following the guideline of two hours of study for every hour spent in the classroom.

According to a 2012 report by Amy Laitinen of the New America Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education said the credit hour is a possible “illusion — studies suggest that typical students work nothing close to two hours out of class for every one hour in — but it is an illusion that everyone understands and agrees to believe.”

When asked if he spent two hours studying per hour that he spent in class, supply chain management sophomore Kyle Baker said, “Hell no. That would be insane. How could you either work or have a social life?”

Human biology and pre-dental senior Lizzy Yesakov said there is “no way” she spends that much time outside of each class preparing and studying.

Yesakov said she works from home about 5–10 hours a week, attends class 13 hours per week, and then spends a few

hours studying each day.

“If I do have an exam I’ll usually study about 1–2 hours every day starting a week before the exam then move into 3–4 hours two days to exam day,” Yesakov said.

Theatre freshman Katelyn Hodge said she studies based on what is occurring next class, typically requiring between one and two hours. Broken down, she attends 12 hours of class and spends around 14 hours studying. According to the Department of Education, Hodge is still 10 hours short of the minimum outof-class preparation time.

Academic adviser Sandra Eagan-Hill said the number of credits she tells a student to take depends on their academic performance as well as what the student feels he or she is capable of.

Every advising recommendation is personal because it depends on the classes a student is looking to enroll in and significantly on time management skills, Eagan-Hill said.

Yesakov said she takes her personal sanity into account and also how many credits she has remaining until graduation.

Since she is planning on staying at MSU for a fifth year, she is able to spread her credits out more.

Hodge said, “I debate how busy I think I’ll be with extracurriculars that semester (and) how many classes I want to take.”

She planned to take 18 credits next semester, but after being cast in a production, she dropped her course load down to 16.

Hodge said she typically enrolls in more than the average number of credits to get the most out of her time at the university and complete her required courses early on.

Though she said she worries about being overloaded, she’s also excited to get to her junior year and take only courses within her field of study.

Last year, the Department of Residence Education and Housing Services, began a pilot program for residents in both Brody and North neighborhoods allowing them to enter their halls after midnight without having night receptionists swipe them in. Residents would instead use the electronic access system to get into residence halls.

This decision was made under the inspiration that REHS could use money and resources in a way that might be more effective in ensuring student safety and security, which is REHS’ first priority, said Charlie Thompson-Orsua, the assistant director of Residence Educa-

tion, Brody Neighborhood and University Apartments.

“North and Brody were identified as, what we call, the pilot neighborhoods,” Thompson-Orsua said. “Those we would give this try to, see how it goes, do it for one year, and then re-asses at the end of that year. That was last year, so we’re now in year two.”

After this, an assessment was done to analyze how the pilot program went over the 2013-2014 academic year, using a number of criteria.

“We looked at a number of factors,” Thompson-Orsua said. “We looked at residents’ perceptions of their experience in the halls, we looked at financial impact as well.”

In terms of the cost-effective measures,

funds were used to hire a full-time community police officer through MSUPD who works out of the neighborhoods without night receptionists.

Thompson-Orsua said that the incoming students’ reactions were difficult to judge, since there was nothing to compare the results to, however returning students “appreciated the way that we went about security” more.

Natisha Foster of REHS lead the committee on the removal of night receptionists, but was unavailable for comment.

Whether the removal of night receptionists will be done in East, South or River Trail neighborhoods has yet to be decided, as officials have not decided whether they will expand the program or kill it for the future.

MSU fitness instructors find satisfaction in positive energy during yoga, zumba classes Some MSU students take time out of their day to help others stay in shape with fitness classes

MSU students teach fitness classes for the love of exercise and to motivate students to be active in a fun way.

Dance has always been a part of studio art senior Sarah Rydel’s life. Teaching a Zumba class in the River Trail Neighborhood, Rydel said it made sense to become a fitness instructor and teach other students how to get fit.

“I was really inspired to become a fitness instructor because of all the positive energy that came into my life when attending Zumba classes,” Rydel said. “It was such an exciting place for me because I could go and expand my energy and socialize and just laugh.”

Before becoming an instructor, Rydel had to intern with a Zumba instructor and show she could help other people.

“You have to be able to choreograph and know about the Zumba program in general,” Rydel said. “It was a gradual process and it’s a very good way to become a teacher.”

Rydel said juggling her Zumba classes with school can be tough, but maintaining a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, balancing homework and managing her time properly makes it possible to accomplish it all.

For yoga instructor and second year veterinary medicine graduate student Becca Raffel, fitness came at an unexpected time in her life.

“I never worked out or went to the gym because

I felt uncomfortable because I was heavier. I was a chunky person,” Raffel said. “But then I found yoga and it’s about accepting your body and it made me feel more comfortable in my own skin.”

Raffel teaches her yoga class in the Union and said it varies by the size of students who attend.

Midterms and weather are contributing factors of students not attending regularly to class, Raffel said.

Exercising for beginners can start with yoga, Raffel said.

“You don’t need to be flexible to do yoga,” Raffel said. “I tell people they’re doing a good job by walking around the room and spending more time standing right next to them, and that sometimes makes them feel more comfortable.”

Raffel said there’s no judgment in her classes and students don’t have to hide. Students feel more comfortable working out with others than working one on one.

Finding time to work out can be challenging for animal science freshman Megan Pokropowicz.

“I usually get my work done first, and it’s kind of a motivator to get my work done because I know at the end of the day I can go to Zumba,” Pokropowicz said. “It doesn’t feel like working out per se, it feels fun.”

According to Tom Fritz, engagement director for North Neighborhood, students perform better academically when they make time to exercise.

Fitness classes such as Zumba, yoga and cardio kickboxing are provided free to MSU students all around campus.

“I’m going to continue to teach and it’s real-

ly cool, this experience,” Rydel said. “It’s given me another opportunity in life outside of college. It’s been beneficial for me and you’re able to share that with others.”

MSU fire marshal concerned about older residence halls

In the digital era, electronics are king and power is a necessity. As technology continues to develop and more and more outlets are being used, officials say fire safety has become even more of a necessity.

Given students’ heavy use of electronic devices, MSU Fire Marshal Denis Zietlow said he makes it a priority to keep MSU residence halls safe and fire-free.

Zietlow said a primary concern for him is that older residence halls are “not set up to handle all of the electronic stuff that people have in their rooms,” which are often powered by extension cords and power strips.

Theatre freshman Jillian Craighead said she uses extension cords and power strips because there are not enough plugs around her room to plug everything in.

Music composition and theatre senior Mark Schenfisch said he needs such power adapters to connect lights, his piano, microwave and fridge to power.

“My bed is lofted, too, so I use

an extension cord to get power to my phone at night,” Schenfisch said.

General guidelines to avoid fire hazards in the residence halls include using extension cords that are hardwired or plugged directly into an outlet.

Zietlow said he does not like to see people using cheap extension cords because they are not safe.

Andrew Smith, an occupational safety compliance officer of MSU’s Infrastructure Planning and Facilities, said extension cords can also be a trip hazard. Power strips should also be kept away from water, and not hung or put underneath carpet, which can cause stress and overheating.

Power strips should have surge protectors and manual shut-offs.

They should also never be connected to one another, Zietlow said.

Smith also said students should look for Underwriters Laboratory–approved power strips because they have been tested and are the safest.

Psychology sophomore Tyler Matteson said he does not think his single power strip is a safety

hazard since it is relatively new.

While she can see why such items could be potential fire hazards, Craighead said, “I turn off my power strip when I’m not using it, and I unplug my extension cords when necessary.”

Zietlow said he does not get a lot of calls regarding power strips and extension cords, but often, small issues with power sources are handled by residence hall staff.

Other ways to avoid fires in rooms include not having candles and keeping hotplates or cooking appliances aside from a microwave, Zietlow said. Turning off and unplugging curling irons and hairdryers when they are not in use is another basic safety precaution.

In short, Zietlow said anything that produces heat should be unplugged after use.

Disabling or covering smoke detectors is also a huge safety risk, Zietlow said. Newer systems in the newly renovated residence halls report to MSU police if an issue with a detector is found.

“We’ve had a very good firesafe year,” Zietlow said. “We hope to keep it that way.”

Black church culture carried forward by college students

When you walk into the Epicenter of Worship in Lansing’s Old Town, you’re immediately bombarded with enthusiastic greetings.

Every Sunday, the Epicenter of Worship is filled with students and Lansing residents.

While the church is not packed to the brim, there is no shortage of people looking to fulfill their spiritual needs.

The difference between this church and one students might have easier access to is the “praise team” — a group equipped with an assortment of instruments ranging from electric guitars to drums to their own voices.

For English junior Leon Adams, finding a church that fit his spiritual needs on campus wasn’t difficult. A few weeks after joining the MSU Gospel Choir, Adams received fliers for multiple churches that were available to him in Lansing.

“I grew up in Detroit, and when I went to Epicenter for the first time, I noticed they had similar belief systems as the churches I usually went to,” Adams said. “So that’s what gravitated me toward that church.”

With high energy and a contemporary style of worship, EOW makes it easy for their diverse gathering to be able to experience the word of God fully.

Connection is essential for members of the EOW – whether it is connecting with God or others. Before the service begins, there is time set aside to participate in a “ministry of hugs” where visitors greet their neighbors.

While the EOW gives a more modern sermon, it is a hub for black students who grew up in traditional black churches.

These churches are known for a strong enthusiasm characterized by passionate lectures.

This spirituality is not something that vanishes in black students after moving away

from home.

According to a sample survey held by the MSU Student Perceptions of Problems and Use of University Programs and Services, 85.8 percent of black students indicated that issues of spiritual and religious nature are important.

Of the whole student body, 67.7 percent indicated it was still important.

“When you do surveys, generally speaking African Americans are people who score highest in terms of saying that issues of religion and spirituality are of interest to them,” said MSU psychology professor Lee June, who conducted the survey of 1,200 students.

STRENGTH OF CULTURE June said importance of religion in black culture is the result of a challenging history.

June said that during the time of slavery and segregation, religion served as driving forces both in terms of personal survival and giving meaning to life.

In slavery times, black people formed their own churches to help them find hope in their oppression.

June said that continued forward because many of the prominent civil rights activists, such as Martin Luther King Jr., Jesse Jackson and Malcolm X, had deep rooted spiritual convictions.

“So it’s a historical factor that I think continued in many ways even to this present time,” June said. “So many of the students here whose parents came out of that religious tradition have passed it down to generations.”

Media and information senior Alex Whittaker grew up a Christian. Whittaker said he attended private Catholic schools in elementary, and went to church almost every Sunday because his parents did. He was influenced religiously by his parents, even when they divorced toward the end of his fifth grade year.

“Because of that, finances weren’t as strong so I went to public school,” Whittaker said.

Spotlight “My faith didn’t really change but I definitely had to rely more on the example my mom set in the house because my dad moved out.”

Watching his mother raising two sons as a single mom, Whittaker said it encouraged him and strengthened his faith.

“I just learned that life isn’t always going to be pleasant, but my mom always taught me that through these hard circumstances, God is who we want to serve and who we want to please.” Whittaker said.

FINDING FAITH Many of the churches located in a walking or short biking distance of campus can be considered “white-washed.”

Going to churches alone can be intimidating, especially when students are used to going to churches where they know or are familiar with almost everyone who attends.

Rachel Love, creative advertising senior and vice president of The Impact Movement, said that’s the reason why her organization exists — to help build a community.

The Impact Movement is a Christian organization that aims to reach black students. Their focus is on three things — being financially, responsibly and morally fit.

Love said those three aspects are particularly stressed because those are the areas in which young black students in the community are believed to struggle with the most.

Impact holds three small Bible study sessions once a week, and a large Bible study activity every other week.

Love said the organization is not a substitute for church for students, so they encourage students to attend church.

“The reason I used to not go to church freshman year was because I didn’t have anyone to

go with,” said Love, adding the group all goes to the Epicenter of Worship together. “If we all go together then it’s more encouraging to go.

Then we do dinner after church on Sundays.”

Human development and family studies junior Cayla Warren joined The Impact Movement last year. Before she joined, she said didn’t take her relationship with God seriously.

“I believed in God and I considered myself a good enough Christian,” Warren said. “Yet, I didn’t have a personal connection or relationship with God.” Warren said that since joining Impact, she has dealt with several aspects of her life that have always been struggles for her. Most importantly, Warren said Impact taught her so much about the love of God, which is now reflected in

her accepting and loving herself for who she is.

“Impact taught me the importance of holding myself accountable whether it be through my actions or words,” Warren said. “I know what unconditional love truly, really means. I seriously wouldn’t have been where I am today without Impact.”

CONNECTING THROUGH MUSIC The MSU Gospel Choir is a Christian organization that has been around for over 40 years.

It started off with three people who had one vision – to sing.

Today, the group has evolved into a passionate group of 40 students and has a reputation for sharing the word of God and leaving an emotional impact on audience members.

But when mechanical engineering senior Alexander Hoover initially joined the choir, it was different than what he expected it would be.

“As time kept going on, my passion kept growing for the ministry because I saw what we were doing – it was bigger than ourselves,” Hoover said. “We all had an agenda that didn’t include ‘what can we get out of this.’ It was ‘what can we do for others.’”

Hoover said the MSU Gospel Choir is not just a registered organization, it can be considered a home away from home. The choir also strives to be a family.

“Just as your family members will tell you ‘If you need anything call me,’ we do the same thing,” Hoover said. “We tell our members all T H U RS DAY, NOV E MB E R 1 3, 2 01 4

Adams, who is also an adviser for the MSU Gospel Choir, said people usually stick with being a part of the choir because of the openness and passion that is demonstrated during rehearsals.

Toward the end of rehearsal, a few advisers or members share how the word of God has impacted them in a personal way.

“It’s way more passionate (than other choirs),” Adams said. “Those type of things really help people coming into choir or into college as a new person because it displays the familiarity of your church at home but also challenges (you) to get closer to God.” TH E STATE N E WS

As their lips moved closer and closer to each other, they tried to keep themselves from breaking out in laughter while trying to avoid eye contact. Looking from afar, people who passed by the Room 201 in the International Center wouldn’t have guessed that students were doing this as a part of a cultural immersion experience.

Students gathered Tuesday night to celebrate Pepero Day,

which some compare to Valentine’s Day. During this day, people typically play a game in which two people stand with a pepero stick, similar to a pocky stick, between them. They have to keep biting at opposite ends of it without touching each other’s lips. The winner is the one with the smallest piece of the pepero stick left.

“That’s always a fun thing, it’s always fun seeing people’s reactions,” said Stephen Young-Jin Wilson, president of Korean Student Association.

Comparative cultures and politics freshman and association intern Alana Labelle-Hahn said the experience was awkward.

“I had never heard of this before,” Labelle-Hahn said. “I’d say it’s very different.”

Anthropology and Chinese sophomore Ashley Rall said she wouldn’t imagine having such a game during an American holiday because people would probably be shy.

According to Korean tradition, Pepero Day is celebrated on 11/11 because the 11s resemble the pepero sticks.

Organization event coordinator YoonGi Kim said the holiday is a newer tradition generally celebrated by teenagers and young adults.

“They didn’t have it back in the day in

Korea or in Asian countries — it’s kind of just recent,” Kim said.

The student group hosted the event as part of its last Korean coffee hour of the semester. The association partnered for the first time this year with the Korean Language Program to host five coffee hours this semester.

This was the first year the student organization teamed up with the Korean Language Program to host the coffee hours.

The association prides itself in being a Korean-American student organization promoting Korean culture, Wilson said. Students who want to get involved with the group or serve on the executive board don’t have to be Korean or of Korean descent.

“Actually I’d say only 50 percent of our e-board right now is actually of Korean descent,” Wilson said. “It’s really just anyone who is interested in Korean culture and if you happen to be Korean, that’s obviously a plus, but you don’t have to be Korean.”

Assistant professor of Korean Ok-Sook Park said the coffee hours offer cultural exposure to students studying Korean that can’t be incorporated into classes because of time constrains.

“It’s good for students because you can’t complete a language program without knowing the culture,” Park said.

Freshman guard Jasmine Lumpkin could play big role for women’s basketball

Last season, freshmen Tori Jankoska and Aerial Powers led MSU in scoring and made an immediate impact on a season that culminated with a Big Ten title. This year, another freshman has the chance to follow in those footsteps.

Freshman guard/forward Jasmine Lumpkin has impressed head coach Suzy Merchant so far, and in her first collegiate game, she was included in the team’s starting five.

“It was a great feeling, getting my name called out there and just starting as a freshman was a crazy experience,” Lumpkin said.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity.”

Lumpkin did not waste her opportunity, scoring 10 points while also dishing out three assists in the season opening exhibition win against Grand Valley State on Sunday. In 28 minutes, Lumpkin shot 5-7 from the field.

Heading into the season, Merchant understood the talent and scoring that Lumpkin could bring. Merchant said earlier this year that Lumpkin is the freshman who has “adjusted the quickest” to the pace of the college game.

“I knew Jas was gonna play,” Merchant said.

“Athletically, she’s certainly extremely gifted.

She did a really nice job for us, played within herself, didn’t force too much.”

Lumpkin managed to stay calm and composed, despite starting in her first game at MSU. She channeled the slasher that she is capable of being, and had numerous strong drives to the hoop in the first half.

“I did get nervous in the warm-ups but after that everything just settled down,” Lumpkin said. “If you think too much or get too nervous, that’s when you start to mess up. So I just tried to take it all in and do what I needed to do to help the team.”

Lumpkin, a four-year letterwinner at Joliet Catholic Academy in Illinois, averaged 18 points per game her senior year. She will be playing alongside Jankoska and Powers, two very good scoring players themselves, so Lumpkin may be asked to fill in different roles on the court.

“I just want to be a person they can look to to score as well,” Lumpkin said. “The starting five, everybody on that floor can score in different ways, so I just want to contribute the best way I can. If they need me to bring more energy in the game, then that’s what I have to do.”

Although MSU has yet to play a regular season game, Merchant has noted that Lumpkin can improve in a few other areas of her game.

“I’d still like to see her rebound better, but I

did think she did a nice job in the scrimmage that we played against Toledo a week ago and then tonight,” Merchant said after the exhibition win. “She does a nice a job and has a nice

feel for the game. She’s going to be impactful for us. I’d like to see her pick it up defensively a little bit more, but that’s the whole team right now.”

It’s been nearly a week since No. 12 MSU’s playoff hopes and dreams were slashed by No. 8 Ohio State and the Spartans are now left picking up the pieces.

“It ’s important that we respond,” head coach Mark Dantonio said on Tuesday during his weekly press conference. “From my perspective, things either get worse or they get better. They never stay the same so it will be important as we move forward that we take the correct approach.”

Dantonio has built a powerhouse program at MSU that, throughout the fall, had molded into a contender for a spot in the inaugural College Football Playoff. However, with the 49-37 loss to the Buckeyes on Saturday, MSU is now an after thought in the playoff conversation.

The same can be said about reaching the Big Ten championship game. With the loss to fellow East Division foe OSU, MSU is ultimately two games back of the Buckeyes. That means the Scarlet and Gray will need to lose two of its final three games against the likes of Minnesota, Indiana, and Michigan.

Although it’s evident that MSU can no longer control its destiny for its two primary pre-

season goals, players are keeping a positive look on things.

Junior quarterback Connor Cook said the team has had a positive mindset since the loss and knows MSU has to simply move on.

“Win or lose, you celebrate a win for 24 hours, you lament it for 24 hours and at a certain point you have to put it behind you, and I think the guys have done that,” Cook said.

Like Cook, junior defensive end Shilique Calhoun isn’t dwelling on this past week’s loss to the Buckeyes.

After an awful outing against Ohio State, where the MSU defense surrendered more than 500 total yards, Calhoun is focused on learning from the mistakes to move forward. Calhoun said he is focused on the next challenge on the Spartans schedule — a road trip to Maryland on Saturday.

“You have to deal with adversity in life and this is one of those teaching moments where it happens and you just have to bounce back from it,” Calhoun said. “We did come into the game excited and we did want to win but things happen and it didn’t play out like we wanted it to so now it’s just on to the next game and try to learn from the mistakes we had in that game.”

If playing Division 1 college basketball is fun, playing Division 1 basketball with your childhood friend is almost indescribable.

Sports-lovers likely remember playing with their best friend as a kid, perhaps pretending they were playing together at a high level.

There are very few that can actually say they are on the same team with their best friend, playing for a storied men’s basketball program, but junior guard Denzel Valentine and junior guard Bryn Forbes are an exception.

The two have been best friends since the age of 7, and with Forbes transferring to MSU in June, the two are playing together once again.

“I’ve known Denzel for about 13, 14 years

now, since we were 7,” Forbes said. “A lot of people don’t get a chance to play with one of their best friends that they’ve been playing with since they were 7 years old.”

Forbes and Valentine also played high school basketball together. At J.W. Sexton High School in Lansing, Mich., Valentine and Forbes won back-to-back state championships together, winning the first one in 2011 before claiming the title again in 2012.

Valentine got a bit more national attention coming out of high school. Forbes was a two-star recruiting prospect according to Rivals, while Valentine was ranked as the No. 81 recruit in the nation and a four-star prospect. Initially, the two had to go their separate ways, with Valentine going to MSU and Forbes going to Cleveland State.

Forbes played very well at Cleveland State. In the 2013-14 season, Forbes scored 15.6 points per game while converting

2.5 three-pointers per game. Ultimately, Forbes transferred from Cleveland State to MSU and has played in both games after having his hardship waiver cleared during the summer.

“It means a lot (that Bryn Forbes and I are playing together again), I’m happy,” Valentine said. “I’m happy he’s back, I’m glad we have an extra shooter and an extra scorer … hopefully he can bring that to the court.”

Head coach Tom Izzo and the Spartans will certainly hope that the success that Valentine and Forbes shared together in high school can now translate to the collegiate level.

“They played together in high school (and) I think that means a lot to the team,” freshman forward Marvin Clark Jr. said.

“They have that camaraderie already, they have chemistry as far as them playing together.”

The Spartans have been picked across the board by a number of media outlets to play in a big time bowl game this postseason. Below are the bowl projections from a number of different media outlets and my thoughts on where I believe the Spartans will be going this holiday season.

SB NATION: Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl vs. No. 9 Auburn on Dec. 31 2014 BTN: Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl vs. No. 10 Ole Miss on Jan. 1 2015 FOX SPORTS: VIZIO Fiesta Bowl vs. No. 7 Arizona State on Dec. 31 2014 MY TWO CENTS: All of the bowl game projections make sense to me and serve as potential landing spots for the Spartans. I believe MSU runs the table, and its current No. 12 ranking in the College Football Playoff rankings should be able to qualify for one of the selection committee bowl games. Those games include the Peach, Orange, Fiesta and Cotton Bowls. If MSU isn’t selected for one of those games, then the Citrus Bowl seems as the most realistic option for the Spartans.
