Band members play their best to qualify for District Band.
Various competitions were held this past year - the Junior Miss Contest, H lgh School One-Acts, National Merit tests, and N.E.D.T.'s. There were District and Regional competitions in chorus, band, orchestra and all interscholastic sports. State High was entered in a District One-Act competition in a brand new district. The cross country and football teams competed for state titles with the latter winn i ng the state championship. Many students were winners, others weren't. Charmaine Kowalski won this year's Junior Miss Pageant; John Sefter won the state Heavyweight championship in wrestl ing; Dave Schmidt was named an All-American in soccer; thirteen students were named N.M.S.Q.T. semi-finalists, and eleven went on to become finalists. The Elks and Optimists named a total of twenty youths students-of-the-month. Many musicians and singers placed in District and Regional Festivals. Not every student won these contests, placed in the festivals competitions, and not all of our sports teams won District t itles. Yet there were no real losers, either. For, in a sense, everyone won something-experience.
