Royal College of Art meets the Constitute and Zentrum für Literatur (tbc)
Humans are (unstrict) algorithms: they respond to external influences according to prefabricated patterns, to impressions as well as Neurotransmitters. Professor Kevin Walker of Royal College of Arts developed the principle of de-computation: Here, “making” is conceived as thinking and in four steps any arbitrary object or process can be decomposed and then be converted into something new. Instead of developing artworks or products from scratch, the Decomputation Workshop is taking on a design challenge at the interection of humans, machines and emotions. What are the inscribed encodings? And how can one dissolve them?
In the evening, the Pop-Up Venue will be opened op to the public- for a panel discussion between workshop participants and artists/scientists from the design fiction field. How to imagine future? And is it of any help to make progress tangible and senseable? What progress can be observed in the area of emotions and artificial intelligence? And where else does one find “sentimental machines”?
